My committee date changed once. It went from Complete to In Committee to Admitted.
Basically they are waiting to see who has committed and who hasn't. I know one wave had their deadline on May 1st to deposit. So now that people have either accepted their spot or denied it, they will move down the list and accept the next best candidate I would imagine.

I just finished lurking through older threads, specifically the posts at the end of each cycle and it appears SCU is notoriously slow. One poster waited 7 months for a WL decision! Absolutely ridiculous.
Would it be wrong to let this admissions process sway my overall opinion of this school? Cause right now it totally is!!

While Admissions Committees change in composition and positioning across schools, it seems to me that they're generally pretty "external" in comparison to the rest of the school. Think of them as similar to a sales department at a company, which are also pretty much "on an island" away from the rest of the team. The average faculty member who will be actually educating you has little to no contact or relation to the admissions people.missjables16 wrote:Thanks Moonlight!Moonlight wrote:My committee date changed once. You're welcome! And I agree with the poster above. They're a pretty separate department from the rest of the school. It is easy to feel swayed by it but still leaves a bad taste in one's mouth.missjables16 wrote:Thanks Moonlight!Moonlight wrote:My committee date changed once. No use. You won't get anything unless you're overqualified to be at their school to begin with and by a large margin.cherrytee wrote:For scholarships and scholarship bumps, who in the deans and admins' office did you guys email?

Well I live in NY so I'm basically torn geographically... Right now I'm between Stetson & South Carolina as they offered me decent amounts of $$ and cost of living is a lot less expensive than up here. I have a job lined up here after graduation, but I went to undergrad in NY and I'm simply dying to get out. At the same time, I can't justify graduating with over 150k in debt especially if I already have a plan after graduation.Moonlight wrote:What schools you considering?laurvb wrote:Been " In Committee" for a while now... On that note, California is looking very appealing! I applied at Southwestern and San Diego, but pretty late in the process so I'm waiting on them as well.

You have a job for post law school graduation lined up there already? If that's the case it may be worth it to go to a school in that area. But I suppose it depends on where you want to practice ultimately. I don't know much about Stetson and South Carolina but I'm guessing they're regional schools as well?laurvb wrote: Well I live in NY so I'm basically torn geographically... Southwestern isn't worth attending just fyi. San Diego is arguably worth attending because I hear they're offering a ton of scholarships this year with minimal to no stip. Plus San Diego has its own market so it's kinda unique in that way. So how much scholarship did you get from SCU? Any other Nor Cal schools you waiting on?

Re: Santa Clara c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
Welcome new admits! I just finished my last final on Tuesday, I guess I can officially call myself a rising 2L now. Crazy! I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have... here or in PM if it's too specific for me to post publicly. All in all - I am happy here. Go where you will be happy (which is largely dependent on your goals, which may not be the same as mine)
To address what some of you asked above:
I couldn't get my stip removed, but they lowered it to 3.0 minimum for anyone entering last fall. I wasn't successful in an increase. SCU is on a 4.33 scale, so 3.0 is actually a B- (for what it's worth, that makes it a bit easier to keep). I also received an additional $5k summer grant from their Center for Social Justice because I will be working in an unpaid position with a non-profit clinic.

Most likely Wakeforest. Their offer was too tempting.
