when did you apply to UM? the Miami Scholars Program?Aroldis105 wrote:I got a call today from the head of MS this afternoon, unfortunately I was visiting another school at the time and couldn't take the call : / . I had already done my skype and phone interview so based on what people have said on here I assume it was to offer me acceptance to the program. MS with the scholarship would be a perfect fit for me, but I can't accept it with that GPA stipulation, especially since Miami just lowered the value of all their +/- grades! I'll do my best to fight it, but I'm doubtful I'll see any results.lhanvt13 wrote:nope it was my misunderstanding . IGNORE EVERYTHINGeas09d wrote:Oh got it. Yeah the calls are preliminary phone interviews, which are follows by a Skype interview. I was told by the recruitment office that they were hoping to have the first batch of acceptances out by today so we'll see I guess!schmoxy wrote:I haven't heard back from Miami Scholars, but it seems like lhanvt13 did...that's what I took from the post anyway! Because people have been getting phone calls this week from Miami Scholars.
and when did you hear back from both?
Trying to figure out a time frame since applications are rolling!

I applied to Miami and Miami Scholars on December first. It's possible I applied to MS a little bit later but definitely before Winter break. I was admitted to Miami in mid-December, I was called about Miami scholars last week and skyped this week.

Are there any L1s, L2s, L3s, or grads who can comment on the difficulty/ease of hitting the GPA stipulations, finding summer internship work, or finding post grad employment?

I got the same thing... Do you think it's smart to try to leverage for more money?lambert8 wrote:Got letter in mail today saying they will give me $2k more per year for scholly if I give my seat deposit by April 1

Got the call this morning--accepted to the Miami Scholars Program! This is going to make my decision really difficult, but I'm looking forward to the scholarship weekend. Anyone else?! It'll actually be my first time in Miami...

I got the call as well. Its Miami Scholars vs William & Mary....grantev wrote:Got the call this morning--accepted to the Miami Scholars Program! If we can find a way to lower or rid ourselves of that GPA stipulation then I'll be going to Miami.
Unfortunately I don't think I can go to the weekend retreat, I have to work (DAMN YOU PROLETARIAT LIFESTYLE). But I'd be real interested in hearing how it goes.

Before I ever got the letter I tried leveraging for more money with a better offer at a better ranked school and they replied saying that the Dean handles scholarships and if I were to get more money I should hear back in February. And then I heard back with the $2k more so I doubt they'd go higher. What do you think?Law911 wrote:I got the same thing... Just got an email saying the gpa stipulation on my scholarship is being changed from top third to top half. Sounds a lot better!

Aw, I see. Sorry to hear you had no luck. Did you get an email from them telling you the tip had been changed to 1/3 of the class to 1/2 half?Aroldis105 wrote:I won't go unless the stip is lowered or eliminated...but at this point I'm looking to push my 15k up to something like 20k. Yeah, well I got accepted into the Miami Scholars program so the money was automatically increased and the stipulation is now at 1/2. I'm much happier with that deal, that being said my other top choice doesn't have any sort of GPA stipulation so that's something I have to think over.Mdenis1 wrote:Aw, I see. Has anyone noticed that the Miami Law School website is down? I'm trying to schedule a visit, but none of the websites ending in miami.law.edu are functioning.

I'm not in admissions so I can't be sure, but I don't think they do. There is a scholarship conference this week for Miami Scholars and others who I believe received titled scholarships (like full rides), which offers travel compensation, I'm pretty sure ASW and this other weekend do not. I remember in past threads people saying that Miami doesn't comp travel because too many people who weren't going to enroll wold take the free trip so that they could spend the weekend in Miami.DML13 wrote:I don't know.
