I think it'll be the end of next week (2/24 ish) or the beginning of the week after (2/27 or 2/28). Last year a few people who were held got accepted in early March. So I guess they would have to have interviewed a week or so before then. But everything has been happening late this cycle, so who really knows?

I just read a blog post on Harvard's website that said if held applicants withdraw their applications then reapply in the same cycle they are very likely to be admitted. I just withdrew, you all should too!

I'm glad someone did. Anyone have speculation on why this year's hold group won't be like last year's? I skimmed last year's thread recently, and I've been depressed ever since.

The Only reason people think this yr is gonna be different is because of the 3 week holiday the admissions office decided to take in January. Because there was silence for that long we may hear later than we would have. But I'm almost sure that we will hear soon though. Hopefully b4 march.

Some held people last year heard in late February. Not a lot, but a few. No reason to think a few of the holds this year wouldn't hear in February (especially the ones with strong numbers).

According to some source, Harvard is holding 2000 applicants so far. The chance of getting in is comparable to emerging from Berkeley's faculty review purge...

Looking at last year the js1-js2 gap ranged from a couple of days to weeks. So it's hard to predict. I have always thought that they had set dates when they wanted to release js2's...so the farther your js1 interview is from that day the longer you wait.

That makes sense, thanks. I know I will be lucky just to get a JS1 interview, so I would love to be in that situation (waiting for a possible JS2) right now.

2000 applicants? jeez...that's almost a third of the applicant pool applying to Harvard. I remember someone saying they put everyone who they had not made a decision on on hold while they made the KB --> JS switch. Makes sense.

Yeah that's a bit absurd. Maybe I'm a pessimist but I can't imagine all 2000 of us would really require immense amounts of time to make a decision on.

Maybe it's just me, but Harvard seems disorganized this cycle, what with large stretches of silence and a questionably high amount of holds.

Just want to insert an overly optimistic prediction that tomorrow will be filled with JS2's and a few JS1's for those of us held in limbo...
