Congrats!! This is incredibly encouraging after the horrible experience that was the October LSAT.jrmcintyre620 wrote:Just found at this morning--accepted!

Had been to UVA before, but took a look round the Law School today. Charlottesville is a paradise.

I love it too. It reminds me of Ashland, Oregon a tad, another city I love, but with the advantage that DC is a short drive instead of being in the middle of nowhere.basilseal wrote:Had been to UVA before, but took a look round the Law School today. Charlottesville is a paradise.

People on TLS must all drink the same kool-aid, cause I know i'm in the minority when I say visiting Charlottesville totally turned me off UVA and visiting Ithaca made me excited about the prospect of Cornell.

I haven't been to either but my UG is in a collegetown and having visited others I assumed they are all pretty similar... what was the difference? The scenery in Ithaca?sanetruth wrote:People on TLS must all drink the same kool-aid, cause I know i'm in the minority when I say visiting Charlottesville totally turned me off UVA and visiting Ithaca made me excited about the prospect of Cornell.

wrong. i grew up with this kind of weather, and I appreciate four real seasons a year. see, this is what i'm talking about. is everyone on TLS from like a tropical location? you know, some people LIKE heavy winters, skiing, fires, etc. There are far worse places than Ithaca if you're really against cold weather.icedflames wrote:Your opinion may change during the winter months lol
What WOULD get to me is a place where there is only a 30-40-degree temperature range year-round like, hrm, charlottesville? where it never drops below freezing so winters are just an unpleasant low 40's with nothing to look forward to.
Besides climate, what really turned me off about UVA/charlottesville was the fact that the law school is completely separated from the town and rest of the school. I really don't like the idea of needing a car to do everything. There literally isn't a single establishment or apartment that isn't a good 15-20 minute walk. And that was only offered as a 'well if you REALLY want to walk...', sounds like a car is just part of your life there. not for me.barneytrouble wrote:what was the difference? The scenery in Ithaca?

Well, I grew up and went to school in the area, but I now currently live closer to NYC. My experience is that a huge campus and lots of snow make it a unpleasant experience, but that's just my opinion.

Man, this is the reason I am not too interested in UVA- I don't want to own a car so it's really important to me that a campus be walkable. The climate and weather sounds pretty good though. I lived in a very cold place for UG and I would rather be somewhere warmer. The NYC area is perfect for me because the weather is great and public transport is awesome. The big downside: cost. =/sanetruth wrote: Besides climate, what really turned me off about UVA/charlottesville was the fact that the law school is completely separated from the town and rest of the school. Are you American?sanetruth wrote: sounds like a car is just part of your life there. not for me.

No seriously though, I'm the opposite. I don't think TLS has anything to do with it. If I learned one thing living in the UK for 3 years, it is that I hate not having a car. It significantly decreases my standard of living, especially in cold/rainy weather. Walking a newborn to the store to pick up a gallon of milk three times a week in pouring rain/sleet (with 3 kids we go through a gallon in about 1.5 days) is not something I EVER want to do again.
Of course, I'm a native Oregonian. I like my snow in the mountains (we have year-round skiing in Oregon after all), not as brown sludge on my sidewalks. And I'm not sure about other DC-ites but my $500 a month heating bill in the winter is one of my least favorite things about living here. *Shrugs* Its a personal preference thing I suppose, but I fully admit I'd rather battle 90 degree heat than 30 degree cool any day.

Yeah I think it is different for people who have children/family. If I had kids I would definitely have a car. But being a 22 year old, I'd rather not worry about paying for gas, taking care of a car, repairs, inspections, parking, etc ... and not to mention I suck at driving

Charlottesville actually does get cold weather (below 30 degrees) during the winter months. It definitely drops below freezing pretty often from December-at least February. For the last few years, it has also received quite a bit of snow. There are is also skiing within about an hour to Charlottesville, although you would need a car to get to it.What WOULD get to me is a place where there is only a 30-40-degree temperature range year-round like, hrm, charlottesville? where it never drops below freezing so winters are just an unpleasant low 40's with nothing to look forward to.
I can see what you mean about the campus being a bit set off from the rest of the town though.

That's actually a good question. I personally have my license, but I don't know what most of my friends use. If it's not a learner's permit or something maybe it is a residency card, i'm going to have to ask a friend this weekend.chem wrote:What do you use for ID's? I was actually considering biking to campus given the fact that Virginia never gets cold - I am from Minnesota and "freezing" does not equal cold. Regardless, I couldn't see going to UVA without a car as there are so many places to visit that are just a couple of hours away.

Amtrak also goes directly to the Cville station, so that's an option for people who want to go do DC, Baltimore, etc., without a car.

I'm from Chicago, and don't like the tropics, so it's not the Charlottesville weather than I'm attracted to. I just like the town, and the students, and the university.
I've spent a lot of time in Ithaca in the winter and had a lot of fun but it is desolate.

Do you mean there is a number/amount under the seat deposit section? Mine just says 0... (I haven't been accepted)

I don't think so. I got accidentally mixed in with ED decisions, but I think it was a fluke.Curious1 wrote:Wait RD acceptances have gone out???MumofCad wrote:Yep - did yours tick over? Probs has more to do with applying so early and having a 4.0/174 tbh.MumofCad wrote:I don't think so.
