Blame the person who provides bullets, not the person who fires them.
Isn't there a Chris Rock skit in which he suggests making bullets $5,000/each to deter murders? He says the "war on guns" is just a red herring. Interesting...

No, we definitely blame the people who fire the bullets last time I checked.anewaphorist wrote:Blame the person who provides bullets, not the person who fires them.

Re: Penn c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Everything is so literal. Every phrase people say has only one meaning, and that's the literal one. All text is God-breathed and not amenable to interpretation.
In a court of law, of course, the person firing is accountable, but the real culprit (because there is justice outside of the law's prescriptions)--the one that, if apprehended and forced to cease its ways, would actually cause a major net decrease in murder--is the company that prices bullets at $3 for 20 and sells assault rifles/magazine extensions to anyone. Just as it has to be acknowledged that the socioeconomic conditions that make violence profitable are to blame at root, rather than the agent of the crime. Of course, we can't indict "the system" and our country sees no problem with the ammunition issue, so it's a case of treating a symptom vs. treating a problem. There's no socioeconomic element in our original metaphor and no real tangible gain that motivated me to shoot, but damn those cartridges horror provided were cheap.

I was going to use the "Not sure if serious" meme, but I think it's more along the lines of "no way you're serious, that is ridiculous".anewaphorist wrote:Everything is so literal. Wait, I thought that for Early Decision, the application only had to be received by the 15th (meaning, we have to send in our application parts via LSAC) and completed by the 1st of December (meaning, LOC and CRS stuff had to be recieved). Am I wrong?

I think he's right, check the instructions on Penn's app via lsac.
Obviously, it couldn't hurt to get it in earlier than the absolute deadline, but either way you'll be alright for awhile.Application Deadlines
Early Decision (Binding)
Submit application by November 15*
Complete application by December 1
Receive decision by December 31
*Applications must be submitted through LSAC no later than November 15. All supporting documents, including the LSAC Credential Assembly Service Report, must be received by December 1 for Early Decision consideration.
Penn Law's Early Decision option allows applicants to receive a decision—admit, deny, or hold for further consideration—by the end of December. Early Decision applicants must take the LSAT no later than October of the application year and submit the application by November 15. Additionally, the Office of Admissions must receive all required supporting documents, including the LSAC Credential Assembly Service report and letters of recommendation, by December 1.

Phew. This is what I thought, but I almost had a heart attack with the Nov 15= complete chatter.Ti1Her0 wrote:I think he's right, check the instructions on Penn's app via lsac.

I think he may have been referring to the bottom 25th percentile of admissions statistics as in the bottom 25 of LSAT and GPA. If he is referring to URMs as the bottom 25th of 1L then I agree that this conversation should be stopped.vanwinkle wrote:jim-green wrote:I have been told on TLS that the bottom 25% is URMs

yeah, I'm pretty sure it was the latter, and it was a pretty fucked up thing to saysn20 wrote:I think he may have been referring to the bottom 25th percentile of admissions statistics as in the bottom 25 of LSAT and GPA. Re: Penn c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Currently working on my UPenn application and I am applying ED.
I have a diversity statement, an LSAT addendum, and writing the lit essay. Should I write the 5 year plan or would that be overkill (esp. since I am ED)? Would writing the five year plan essay be better than writing the lit essay? I think I could probably do a better job with the lit essay, but I have heard Penn likes the 5 year plan one....any advice?

For the 5-year plan essay, did any of you explicitly mention the word "5-year" anywhere in the essay?
and did you guys title it something along the lines of "5-year plan"?

Yes & yes. I used it as more of a "Why UPenn?" but ended it with how UPenn would contribute to my 5 year plan.Schang1 wrote:For the 5-year plan essay, did any of you explicitly mention the word "5-year" anywhere in the essay?and did you guys title it something along the lines of "5-year plan"?

I mentioned "5-year plan" once. Did not title it. I put in the header "Supplemental Essay 1."Schang1 wrote:For the 5-year plan essay, did any of you explicitly mention the word "5-year" anywhere in the essay?and did you guys title it something along the lines of "5-year plan"?

Thanks for the opinion guys
I decided to just not mention it because it was already kind of implied
