Wow I'm shocked but they really do round your index on the Law School Report! That's ridiculous seeing as the difference between a 3.349 and a 3.351 is absolutely negligible yet thanks to rounding the later is extremely likely to get in the and the former will really have to fight!

That's true but I'd be willing to bet that for at least a few people with 3.4s EDing it'll be "ED, good index, no felonies, accepted!" whereas the 3.3s will all receive a more thorough look over.Kili wrote:Don't discount the fact that they will still see your raw GPA and LSAT without the index.

Haha. Columbia auto-admitting 3.4's would be interesting.Kili wrote:JoeShmoe11 wrote:That's true but I'd be willing to bet that for at least a few people with 3.4s EDing it'll be "ED, good index, no felonies, accepted!" whereas the 3.3s will all receive a more thorough look over.Kili wrote:Don't discount the fact that they will still see your raw GPA and LSAT without the index.
Those are supposed to be 4.3/4.4s. Fixed again before freak-outs ensue.

Re: Columbia 2011!
Since the EDers will hopefully be hearing pretty soon about decisions, I was hoping to make a compiled list of the decisions up in the OP as they come in. If you hear back and post in the thread, it would be helpful if you list your numbers, your submit/decision dates, and whether you EDed or not.
Thanks everybody, and good luck!

Re: Columbia 2011!
I applied Early Decision and sent my contract by next day mail on the ED deadline, but I still haven't heard anything about if they've received anything or not. I'm starting to get a little worried as decisions are suppose to be rolling in really soon. Should I call them tomorrow and check the status of my documents?

Re: Columbia 2011!
I think this would be a great idea. I've spent countless amounts of hours scrolling through pages looking at numbers of people accepted and dinged in recent years. I think it would be a great resource for future applicants if they could see all that information on page 1.vertex wrote:Since the EDers will hopefully be hearing pretty soon about decisions, I was hoping to make a compiled list of the decisions up in the OP as they come in. Re: Columbia 2011!
Had a nice little heart attack just now. I'm still at completion pending, but I got a small envelop from Columbia in the mail and for a few irrational seconds I thought it must mean that they had preemptively rejected me. I know, I know... Crazy and ridiculous.
Instead it was a letter from the Outlaws, dated the 24th, saying they already know I've been contacted by the admissions office and want to make sure I've applied, looking forward to seeing me, etc. Whew.....
I can't help looking at the signatures on things like this and trying to discern which ones are real and which ones are scanned. I think these ones are real. Or at least a flatteringly convincing forgery utilizing different ink colors. Honestly, I don't know why someone getting writer's cramp from signing a few hundred letters is more flattering to me than a scanned sig', but it is
Also, short of some big $$$$ or a big surprise, it is reasonably likely that I will be seeing the bearers of these signatures next year... Eeek! Time to fangirl on the school website for a while
Anyone else get contacted by CLS student groups lately? Most of the other school's groups came with the fee-waver packets or not at all.

Re: Columbia 2011!
They MIGHT have given you time if you had called on ED day and explained your situation but if you've gone this long and haven't contacted Columbia you might be out of luck.dangerousminds wrote:I applied Early Decision and sent my contract by next day mail on the ED deadline, but I still haven't heard anything about if they've received anything or not. I was gonna ask the same thing - this topic is dead and the others are booming! My theory? It's too bad for HYS people to care about but too good for lower T14 to pay that much mind to.Kili wrote:How come Columbia never gets as much love on TLS as other top schools?

This. If you think about it, Chicago doesn't either. I think NYU gets all the PI love, but CC are just smushed between HYS (where a lot of posters focus their attention) and MVPB (where a lot of posters set their sights.)JoeShmoe11 wrote:I was gonna ask the same thing - this topic is dead and the others are booming! It also doesn't have a whole lot happening yet. No updates, emails, or phone calls to report. Yale isn't booming nearly as much as some of the others either.Kili wrote:How come Columbia never gets as much love on TLS as other top schools?

Re: Columbia 2011!
That's true, Chicago's only at 8 pages and it's in the same area. Columbia also seems to be very numbers-dependent... if you've got a 3.9 and 172 it's a safe bet that you're getting in. Likewise with a 3.7 and 170 your chances are slim. That kinda limits discussion a bit.eskimo wrote:This. If you think about it, Chicago doesn't either. Well then maybe it'll start booming when we hear back tomorrow?daisyduke wrote:It also doesn't have a whole lot happening yet. No updates, emails, or phone calls to report. Completion pending still. Any thoughts on Columbia at sticker? Cuz I don't think I will get any dinaro from them, given I get in.

I'd do it, as long as I knew that I was locking myself in to biglaw and thrifty living for at least a few years.Ragged wrote:Completion pending still. Any thoughts on Columbia at sticker? Cuz I don't think I will get any dinaro from them, given I get in.

Re: Columbia 2011!
Looking at it from a purely monetary standpoint (assuming HYS are out of question): I'm not getting a penny either, unfortunately. $180k is a lot of money but NYU and Chicago run at the same cost. Penn is only 6k less a year and Michigan and Virginia are 10k less a year. Unless I got a LOT of money at Penn, Columbia is the only obvious choice to me. Or if I got a decent amount at NYU.Ragged wrote:Completion pending still. Any thoughts on Columbia at sticker? Cuz I don't think I will get any dinaro from them, given I get in.
