I would think you would need to talk to Dean Soto. Just call admissions and they can direct you. I don't know how the negotiation process works, but it can't hurt to ask.pepsi wrote:Who is the contact at ASU for scholarship negotiation?

I am still anxiously awaiting a response from ASU. It is by far my first choice and I hope I can get in. I originally thought that I would be accepted, but this long wait makes me think its a waitlist or rejection..... ARHHHHHHH

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
Met this girl a short while ago, just after college. Began courting her as I could see myself with her for the rest of my life. Although I was courting others (as back-up), she was by far my favorite. I let her know that and pulled out all the stops. Turns out, she was also courting others. And I was not her favorite. In fact, she kept ME around as a back-up in case her other top choices didn’t work out. It would have been much healthier had she cut me loose sooner. But she kept playing me along making me crazy. I couldn’t eat, sleep, concentrate.... Started losing hair, going gray in those I kept, and accumulating an impressive collection of ulcers… Now all I can do is sit in a damn online room and talk about her with the other poor saps that she’s stringing along… Why do I still love you ASU??? WHY???

Seriously? There is an ASW next weekend??!!! Wow, Sparky, that's a pretty big FU to me...
Edited to add: AND my numbers are comparable to those of people who have gotten in so far, and I know that "softs" may not count for much but I currently teach in Phoenix's lowest-income neighborhood so COME ON. I think I'm going to start spitting at it when I drive past.

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
Just got a packet and an offer of some $$ (and the only req for renewing in is to remain in good academic standing). Tons of info with it. I gotta say, I'd kinda forgotten about Arizona St but now I'm really interested. Great area, great price, and the rankings are pretty good too. I could easily see myself attending...

I know! I'll likely request that they give me a little bit more time. 12 days is really close, especially since I've still got some applications out.

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
ASW is this coming weekend? Yikes. I never thought that it would take this long to get a decision, but here I am waiting for letters from three schools. ASU is by far my top choice; at this point, it is likely my only choice. I am checking LSN like a crazy person. I have yet to see anyone get accepted OR rejected in my GPA/LSAT range (my numbers are split).
Maybe tomorrow.....

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
Just got a call back from Kathy this morning - STILL NO DECISION.
Grrr... I asked her if people who were held over for RD have been receiving decisions and she wasn't sure but she said she thinks they have been. I'm still going to take that as a good sign then. 11 days of agony left, people. Let's just hold it together.

to everyone still waiting: good luck and best wishes. it's so hard to be anxious over something that is this significant and over which you have almost no control. take it as an opportunity to empathize with how those 'outside the guild' feel when they are engaged in the legal process! good things come to those who wait so, even if you don't get the news you want to hear, you will make the most of the decision.
to everyone who is admitted and considering asu: i took advantage of dean berman's offer to meet one on one today. i am very glad i did. he was very patient about my reservations and offered a lot of helpful advice. i feel a lot more comfortable now about my decision to leave my job and return to school than i did before. as 'members of the guild' might say, res ipsa loquitur - the fact that the dean and his staff make themselves so available to (prospective) students speaks to how the asu law school views its pedagogical responsibilities.

What did you discuss with Dean Berman? Interested to find out what information (not admissions-related of course) you came away with. What calmed your nerves? What inside information can you share with us?

Re: What's up with Arizona State (ASU)?
i told him about my career goals and he gave me an idea of how i could pursue them as an asu law student. not much that i couldnt read about online, but the details about the clinics convinced me that this was a major part of his office's focus and not an afterthought.AsexualChocolate wrote:Thank you, sir. he also said that local superior court judge Bruce Cohen was spearheading a project to pair each asu law student iwth a superior court judge 'mentor.'
the only other piece of information which i will use to advocate for law school on my behalf to my sig other is that dean berman is working to expand the loan relief program which is executed through the bar. no details tho.
my big takeaway was the accessibility of the faculty and staff. dean berman said that every tuesday afternoon he opens his door to student walk-ins and doesnt go home until everyone has been able to talk to him. that is sweet and not at all like any experience i had as an asu UG.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
