Is it really that early? What's the usual time-frame?thalassocrat wrote:Congrats!blhoward2 wrote:Got a dean's letter as well. $30K over 3 years.

Re: michigan 2010 applicants
Thanks, I was surprised. I don't know if it is really early. I've gotten scholarships from a few T2 schools. The ones that I haven't should be doing it soon. (I was at Villanova yesterday and the admission dean told me they are meeting sometime in the next 2 weeks.)thalassocrat wrote:Congrats!blhoward2 wrote:Got a dean's letter as well. $30K over 3 years.

Re: michigan 2010 applicants
That's a good question. I was basing that off the fact that people only started hearing this week. Their site says "[t]ypically, merit dicisions are made within two weeks of admission" so presumably a lot of people are waiting, since I only see a handful here and on LSN. I admit it was mostly speculation, though, and probably should have indicated that. Hopeful, hopeful speculation.jackassjim wrote:Is it really that early? A lot of us were admitted Christmas Eve and the e-mail alluded to the fact that they were notifying us earlier in the process than they normally do so it's possible they are behind.thalassocrat wrote:That's a good question. Yep, I was one of those. I think there's no doubt they're behind, which is another reason I'm not going to worry about it. Re: michigan 2010 applicants
hi guys, are any of you in-state? am we supposed to fill out a residency application before we get our decisions? it seems like it makes more sense the other way around, but i can't find it written anywhere...

Re: michigan 2010 applicants
I'm in-state. If the admissions office told you that you need to fill out a residency application, you don't have to do it before a decision is made. In fact, I believe that the deadline for the Summer term is July 31, and for Fall - September 30.goblue1646 wrote:hi guys, are any of you in-state? am we supposed to fill out a residency application before we get our decisions? it seems like it makes more sense the other way around, but i can't find it written anywhere...
According to Michigan's Admissions FAQ, when it's likely that an applicant will be classified as in-state, they give him the benefit of the doubt, and having Michigan residency can give a slight boost in the admissions process. However, it might still be to your advantage to get that done before a decision, if only so you wouldn't have to worry about it later (and to settle the matter definitively and hopefully to your advantage!).
By the way, if it's obvious from your application that you qualify as a Michigan resident (eg: went to high school/college here, worked here, have family living here, etc.), or if you went to Michigan undergrad and were counted as in-state then, I'd contact the Residency Classification Office directly first, explain your situation, and ask whether you actually need to submit the application. In some cases, they will be able to classify you as a resident just based on the information you've provided in your law school application (they'll even pull it for you so you don't need to provide them with a copy) without you needing to submit anything else. Good luck.

Came home to a $45,000 scholarship! Did not think my numbers put me in that category but I will take it.

Congrats, $45,000 is an impressive chunk of change. After 10 years of interest payments, it would be even larger.

Congrats, I was hoping on getting some money from UofM but instead got a hold or whatever its called. Wrote a why michigan essay but at 178/3.6 I guess it was YP. I would certainly have considered going with 54K though.Helmholtz wrote:+1maggiebre wrote:Congrats... that's a nice surprise!rockchalk86 wrote:Came home to a $45,000 scholarship! Hmm you give me hope. I have similar #s.
