Yeah, true, and given that I went to Stanford, it's pretty obvious when I say "good friend" that I mean Stanford. So yes, my good friend who got into Chicago yesterday went to Stanford. The cat is out of the bag.TheWire wrote:I think my UC undergrad is leaving me out to drycrackberry wrote:Good friend with 168, 3.6 (HYPS undergrad) who got the call yesterday. West Coast.
EDIT: it always makes me smile when I see "HYPS." It necessarily indicates that the student went to Stanford but has no intention of ever admitting that Stanford is not #1. FWIW, I understand why because I live on the west coast, east coasters will never understand the prestige that Stanford carries out here...
I hate East Coasters' East Coast bias against Stanford. They all assume it's HYP>MIT>S, which is retarded. I went to school at Stanford, and while I of course think it's the most awesome school in the country, I recognize that HYP and MIT are peer schools.

It's interesting how subjective admissions still apparently are, given your Y/S admissions and responses from other schools.crackberry wrote:Blatant anti-California & anti-HYS trolling by Chicago admissions.BioEBear2010 wrote:Loud and proud.crackberry wrote: Wait BioE were you WLed too?

I agree. Admissions clearly aren't nearly as numbers-oriented as most people make them out to be (although they do matter). I see them more as a cut-off metric.EijiMiyake wrote: It's interesting how subjective admissions still apparently are, given your Y/S admissions and responses from other schools.

lolwut? MIT and Caltech are different from HYPS (and correspondingly put together student bodies with different traits), but definitely attract students that are of a similar or higher caliber than those at HYPS.managamy wrote:+10000000000000. I've heard that MIT looks down on HYP for being soft and weak. The way I've heard MIT described, it sounds like a competition between the students and the professors.

To say that Stanford and Penn are in the same tier reeks of psychosis.

But even friends of my Yale-loving sister say that S is right up there with HYP, so perhaps East-Coasters are starting to realize the parity.

Re: U Chicago 2010
You are clearly using USNWR UG rankings, which are meaningless. Some of the criteria they use - alumni giving, for one - are really ridiculous and should not be used to judge a school. Look at the average SAT scores, acceptance rates, etc. of the two schools. It's not even close (relatively speaking). Penn is basically the school that rich NYC prep school kids who can't cut it at HYP go to. None of those kids even apply to Stanford because 1) they can't get in and 2) they think California is another country.D Brooks wrote:Based on what methodology?crackberry wrote:You are one of the idiots I am describing.D Brooks wrote:HYP SPCC/Caltech,MITEijiMiyake wrote: lolwut?
