I had my interview last night.kek5250 wrote:scheduled my interview! who's had one? any tips or tricks? what was it like?
Lasted 45 minutes.
1st Q: why do you want to go to G?
2nd Q: what other schools have you gotten into?
3rd Q: why law?
4th Q: what have you been doing since you graduated, i.e. re: work experience
5th Q: do you know why we're having the interview today? (pretty weird question....then interviewer answered own Q: because you are borderline)
Spent the latter part of the interview asking Q about school and program.
Hope this helps.

169, 3.8 borderline? WTF? Did he meant you were mentally borderline, making your a borderline candidate in terms of competitiveness?tmkm wrote:I had my interview last night.kek5250 wrote:scheduled my interview! who's had one? any tips or tricks? what was it like?

This really makes sense. Even with no WE, I don't see how anyone in their right mind would consider you borderline for GULC.

i have no idea...i think he meant something about my app made me borderline aside from my raw numbers? it could have also been the fact that they were wondering whether I would really go to d.c. or not, which I verified for them during the intv

I don't either and I applied in early February. :/jettison63 wrote:Any 3/1 applicants have an interview request yet?
I don't and I'm curious if that's going to be true for most late applicants.

If it makes you feel any better I'm 171/3.87 with WE and a strong resume and have been admitted to several other schools (including another T14) and still had to do an interview. My interviewer didn't say anything about why we were doing the interview and really didn't ask the typical interview questions other than "why law school". It actually was mostly me asking questions. She asked if I'd been hearing back from other schools but didn't ask if I'd been accepted and didn't ask for any school names.tmkm wrote:i have no idea...i think he meant something about my app made me borderline aside from my raw numbers? it could have also been the fact that they were wondering whether I would really go to d.c. or not, which I verified for them during the intv
When I got invited to do the interview I did some searching on the internet for tips and saw some speculation that GULC introduced the interview process a few years ago and wants to make it mandatory, but for now is just working out the kinks of holding these alumni interviews all over the country. I don't want to rationalize if I really do just suck outside of my numbers, but maybe we're just guinea pigs? Or maybe I had a typo in my PS.
Edit: One question she did ask even though she didn't ask for any school names was whether I'd applied to schools all over the country or if I was only applying to schools in the Southeast (where I am now and went to college). She also asked if I was excited to branch out a little bit and relocate, so they may be interviewing students that they're worried won't be willing to move to DC. Strange, but since you mentioned something similar it's possible I guess?

Re: Georgetown c/o 2017 Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
I haven't had mine yet, but it seems like pretty basic questions are asked like "why law" "why Georgetown" etc. If you know the name of your interviewer, do a quick web search just to see what they're like. I wouldn't openly say facts about them to their face, like what area of law they practice (that could come off as creepy), but at least so you have their background for your own benefit (so you don't say something embarrassing like "Oh I would never be that kind of lawyer," only to find out that's what they practice). Also, a lot of people seem to have their interviews in casual locations, so casual (but neat and tidy) clothes are fine. I'm personally going to dress up for mine because we are meeting in a law firm, but I think I'm an exception in that regard. Good luck!jk148706 wrote:I interview tomorrow. Re: Georgetown c/o 2017 Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
Just finished my interview! My interviewer told me that it was actually a good sign that I was being interviewed. He said that very few people get interviews relative to the total number of apps, but that they're for candidates that weren't necessarily auto-admits but were still worth the time. He said very few people he's interviewed have gone on to then not be admitted. He was extremely nice and I'm probably twice as excited about the prospect of Georgetown Law now as I was this morning.
The interview was really casual, we talked for about 40 minutes about everything from being an RA in college to advice for first year law students to study abroad. It felt like a very casual "getting to know you" session!
Thanks so much for the input, guys!

Re: Georgetown c/o 2017 Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
Here is my experience with the alumni interview, I hope it helps!
I recently interviewed. My interviewer was a genuinely really nice person. The interview was held at a mid-size law firm. We opened up with small talk, I made a couple humorous comments about myself, and we proceeded to chat for about 45 minutes. The interviewer asked a few standard questions: why law, why GULC, what field I was interested in, etc. Nothing too heavy. We mostly talked about our experiences and what drew us both to law. The interviewer was incredibly helpful with giving me their perspective into GULC.
I am really glad I participated, and I would encourage everyone to interview if they have the chance. In case other people haven't seen it, GULC has information about the Alumni Interview Program on their website: http://www.law.georgetown.edu/alumni/ge ... /index.cfm
Best of luck to all!!

how long after your most recent date change are you contacted about an alumni interview, if applicable?

Submitted 2/25, first status change was 3/7, second status change was today (3/20). No word about an interview.
I'm a current student at the undergrad school though, if that affects who gets interviews.

Any idea of the turnaround from interview to decision?

Nervous about this update... how quick after updates are people generally able to get on the ASW? and on the flip side, how soon after do people get WL and Ding emails? I'm just kind of stressing out.

If my status is still "complete" with a date of 1/31 should I just assume that it's a ding?
