So I am composing an LOCI to NYU--is it a horrible decision to include the phrase "I love purple"?
Slightly joking and slightly serious.

I did that for my undergrad app to Northwestern and got in...but I was 18. Do what you will with that information.

+1
When I applied to NYU (for undergrad) my mother negotiated additional scholarship money by informing the Bursar that my room was painted purple. It worked, but oh my dignity.

So I have been under review at NYU since October with one update in November right after Sandy. Are there very many people with apps that old still waiting? I was an RTK applicant and I just don't think I have been accepted in time to be considered...

UR1 early November, UR2 early December, nothing since if that's what you're asking.
Not looking good for us, welcome to the waitlist.

I'm sitting at work. And I really just don't care. I don't want to call people. Ugh. Motivation is GONE.

I find today's silence particularly unfortunate because Monday is a holiday.

This. They have become unbearable unless I sleep in the whole day or get drunk the whole day. Or both.

It's funny because I've always heard that NYU is among the slowest to give a response, but they were lightning fast with me. I applied really late Sunday night right before going to sleep and got the phone call this Wednesday while I was out to lunch. What a pleasant surprise. I'm glad they didn't take my tardiness as disinterest. NYU was always my original number one. The only strike I've ever had against it is New York's crazy cost of living, which I have firsthand experience with.

It seems like they're lighting fast this year for people with auto-admit #s, but everyone else is kept waiting.

I don't mind slow acceptances, it's slow rejections. They can take as long as they want if I really have a shot, but if I'm an autoding I would really like to know now.

This may not be what you want to hear but, they haven't just been fast for people with auto-admit #s. I was admitted after UR1 and am a non-urm below both medians. I would guess they, like a lot of the other schools that are taking forever this cycle, are probably just trying to balance out their class and preserve their medians, so I wouldn't take silence as a bad sign...if you haven't heard, then you're still in the running!

^ Exactly. This was the exception, not the rule. NYU has been one of the slower T14's this cycle for non auto-admits or people with super softs. I applied in a previous recent year and they were definitely faster, at least with the acceptances and dings.

oh, my bad. i'm not used to ever being the exception

that being said, if they've been super slow with most people then there is still hope! Feel free to pm me if you want more info on my softs or want me to look over a LOCI. I'll be rooting for you!
