I am not too worried, it is what it is. Just doing my number analysis to figure out why.

Yikes, this makes me incredibly worried - I'm 3.85/168 and still haven't gone under review. Oy veigh.

a 171/3.9 was in today. My 170/3.88 is WL. A 169/3.72 was rejected. WL'ed today: 4.01, 3.9, 173, 176. Everyone below both are out. If they really are playing the numbers game at this point to finish off the class it is not looking good for you. I think they are trying to at least maintain last year's 75% stats and only taking people who can help. As good as my numbers may look I can't help them with either342848386278 wrote:r6_philly wrote:I think the 75% target this year is 171/3.9everyone with both is admitted and everyone waitlisted has 1 of 2 above that mark. Re: U Penn 2010
Schools have no real incentive to boost 75ths (rankings incorporate medians, not 25/75), so I doubt that's the reason. Penn is just infamous for being a bit more of a black box than most top schools, and they've always had a reputation for handing out waitlists like candy. Just hope for the best and don't stress too much about it.342848386278 wrote:r6_philly wrote:I think the 75% target this year is 171/3.9everyone with both is admitted and everyone waitlisted has 1 of 2 above that mark. So maybe that's the admission season goals for the median LSAT and GPA?AngryAvocado wrote:

Accepted today, got the call around 2pm. Pretty excited, as Penn is one of my top choices and also my first acceptance. UR 2/17 for anyone who was as impatient as I was haha.

Your numbers would have made you extremely competitive if you'd applied in Oct/Nov, but when you apply that late you might as well just lop 2 or 3 points off your LSAT to gauge your chances.r6_philly wrote:a 171/3.9 was in today. I've had the same trouble, and I applied Dec. WL'd at GULV, UVa, Berk with numbers that would have been very solid back in Oct/Nov. Late January applicants with Feb LSAT scores are at a mega-disadvantage, and that's why your cycle might be rough.

It's ok I am not upset though, I am sure it will work out for the best, this cycle or next.

Waitlisted yesterday via email.
Sheesh, I've run the gamut of wait-lists now. Cornell, Duke, Michigan, Penn, even Columbia.... What the hell is up with that huge numbers range all being waitlists? Cornell to Columbia?

Re: U Penn 2010
I am not sure whether this is a good thread to post, but I am trying any way (please let me know if this is inappropriate, then I can move to Admissions)
I was waitlisted at Penn yesterday via e-mail. I was planning to write an additional essay to show my interest as Penn is my top-choice school. I wrote Why Penn essay -> at the time, I didn't know this was why Penn, but more like how I can contribute to Penn community. So my essay catered to my interpretation - how my background can enrich the diversity of Penn.
Now that I am more educated and informed, I feel like I can write a better and more-related Why Penn essay.
My question is: do you think it will reflect badly (and therefore I should not write) if I submit a Why Penn essay the second time as an additional essay?

Re: U Penn 2010
I would like to think it would help, however slightly. You numbers are pretty good, and if you are serious about attending it will help you stand out. Looking back to past years, large percentage of people with your numbers end up withdrawing after accepted or WL. If you are from NY I can only assume you should have other options, and you need to let Penn know why you are serious.
Although, I was WL'ed all the same yesterday even though I wrote the actual why penn essay, live near the campus, have family roots locally and and applying to a different grad program at penn (for a joint degree). So I think maybe they are just WL at this point because of increased qualified applicants. So I don't know how effective a why penn essay will be unless you state that you will attend if accepted (and mean it).

Scary. I also am from Philly, live in the city, wrote what I think was a pretty strong Why Penn essay (although not with an absolute commitment, I did say something like "I don't think any school would be better for what I want to do.."), and was hoping this would help get me an acceptance ......... feel a WL is probably in my future nowr6_philly wrote:I would like to think it would help, however slightly. Hopefully they have all the 3.9s they need and are short a few high LSATs.

Re: U Penn 2010
I think your chances are pretty decent. I got in yesterday with a 174/3.59, and from your profile, your numbers are better. I also wrote the Why Penn/5 year plan essay, although I am a Penn undergrad right now, so I don't know if that helps or hurts.FCD wrote:Scary. Ya I don't think you guys will have much problem getting in with your high LSATs. Maybe they don't feel the need to WL you guys because your GPA may keep you from getting better offers at Berkeley.chinny123 wrote:I think your chances are pretty decent. Haha truth. Rejected from Berkeley after FR. It's ok though, I got (at least) NYU, still waiting on a couple others though.

I didn't even apply to berkeley, I much rather stay closer to home if possible. Good luck with your other outstanding apps. Penn needs to throw some money your way and make it interesting if they want to keep you.

haha, I didn't even realize that I shared most of my information in my profile. I do have strong reasons why I like Penn as my top-choice (prefer not to disclose at this stage, but will later); so I actually do mean it when I say "top-choice"r6_philly wrote:I would like to think it would help, however slightly. Just a question: when people talk about Why Penn essay, are they talking about this essay topic?
"Describe how your background or experiences will contribute to or enhance the diversity of the Penn Law community (e.g. based on your culture, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, ideology, age, socioeconomic status, academic background, employment experience, etc.)"
Or the 5-year plan?
I always regarded this as how you can enrich the diversity on Penn campus; so I catered my essay to answer that.

5 year plan. It asks how will Penn contribute to your 5 year plan.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
