Harvard seems to be holding a lot of people with stellar numbers today.

That's my take on it! Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it.twinkletoes16 wrote:
You JS1d and were held? Last wave was all non-JS1s, right?

Yep. JS1 in early December. There goes my leverage for scholly negotiations with other schools.housebro13 wrote:Were you held also?shntn wrote:They'll come begging later.housebro13 wrote:Harvard seems to be holding a lot of people with stellar numbers today.

Stupid question, but is held the exact same thing as waitlisted, or is there some difference I'm unaware of?

Shinton, I'm sorry man. But thanks for at least joining me as someone they liked enough to interview, and turned out to not like enough to accept yet. I think Lavitz is in there with us, too.shntn wrote:Yep. JS1 in early December. Gotta feel like dings are around here somewhere. Also, yes, there were no JS1 holds in the last batch.

I'm really floored that you weren't admitted on Day 1, to be perfectly honest. But it's nice to know that I'm in good company.elterrible78 wrote: Shinton, I'm sorry man. Sorry to hear that. Well, if Harvard does decide to accept you, you're automatically JS2. I don't think they give out JS1s twice.shntn wrote:Yep. JS1 in early December. So confused...especially with elterrible's hold. I think we are all just floating along now.

Exactly! In light of the new holds, I feel like the little chances I had just flew out the window.broadstreet11 wrote:So confused...especially with elterrible's hold. I think we are all just floating along now.

Outliers. The happen every year. But it's much more unsettling when you know them (or they are ITT with you) than when they are one random dot on an LSN screen.broadstreet11 wrote:So confused...especially with elterrible's hold. I think we are all just floating along now.

I haven't gotten the held email yet (js1 early dec), but I hope some of today's results temper the absurd exuberance that has taken over the chances forum this cycle.

Re: Harvard c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Yeah, if you just look at the numbers, it seems weird. Also, what I thought were good softs may have actually worked against me. I'm a non-trad (34) who worked full time for seven years before undergrad, then did an MA, then joined the military. But that may just have added up to "This guy can't figure out what the hell he wants to do with his life" to the adcomm, and that would be a reasonable (though wholly inaccurate) assessment.az21833 wrote:stunend by the developments of el terrible
The thing that really effs with me, though, is that they were interested enough to interview me and THEN decided to take a pass. It really makes me wonder what the hell I did during that interview that was off-putting, because typically I'm a pretty good interviewer.
Who knows? I wouldn't lose heart if I were anyone else, though...just as there are people with "stellar" numbers who have been held, there are people whose numbers are a little on H's low side who are getting in. If anything, I think that's encouraging.

Re: Harvard c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I hate that I now have to hang on to a small amount of hope. Given the amount of applicants who got in off held decisions in the past, I am trying to convince myself that I should just read that email as a ding and move on. Probably be much easier than checking this thread every day and keeping myself in constant "waiting mode."
