Just withdrew, declining a 30K scholarship. Good luck to everyone else!

Re: USC 2010!
I received an email with a link to my 2010-2011 Financial Aid award last night. When I visited the site, it listed only my scholarship, and no loans. I submitted a FAFSA and all other required documents and my FAFSA lists my estimates family contribution at $700. This must be a mistake, as every other school has qualified me for the max Stafford loans and tentatively for Grad PLUS loans, as well.
Did anyone else get an email like this and see no loans in their package?

I withdrew last week but still got the email. My had only federal loans, and not my scholarship. I guess mine was the reverse of yours.musicfor18 wrote:I received an email with a link to my 2010-2011 Financial Aid award last night. I had the same issue. I just sent the office an email, and I'll post the results. Seems like a technical error.musicfor18 wrote:I received an email with a link to my 2010-2011 Financial Aid award last night. When I visited the site, it listed only my scholarship, and no loans. Mine lists scholarship and subsidized/unsubsidized stafford loans... but has my EFC at $31,000, which is much higher than what I've received from other schoolsmusicfor18 wrote:I received an email with a link to my 2010-2011 Financial Aid award last night. My EFC was $50k! Considering I made $0 last year and my parents made almost $50k, so I'm not sure where they think the money is coming from. Oh well.

Re: USC 2010!
$0. My parents do live in San Francisco, so their house is worth quite a bit. They have $1m in investments - that unfortunately is not in a retirement account, but that's what the money is for. I have not received financial assistance from my parents for 6 years - I'm 28. Asking them for $50k annually would be asking them for more than what they earn per year. Actually it would be more since tuition is not tax deductible. So they would have to take money out of their retirement savings instead of contributing to it. Grrr.musicfor18 wrote:What was your EFC as listed on your SAR?foxyeconomist wrote:My EFC was $50k! Re: USC 2010!
I just spoke to the director of financial aid (via email), who told I received the award email because they had just entered my scholarship into the system. She said I'd get another one when the full aid package was entered. I assume this is the same for the rest of you!

Re: USC 2010!
The Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) numbers may seem high because of the definition the school uses. If you check, the EFC = total cost - (listed loans + listed scholarships). So no matter how much or how little they give you, the EFC is the remainder.
Thanks for "estimating" the EFC based on factors completely exogenous to the family's financial means, financial aid guys!
Note: I also liked how although the school offered me $0 in return for my 167/3.64--not that I necessarily blame them--they listed government loans as an "award." Perhaps from the government--but certainly not from the school! You aren't doing me a favor, guys.
Who do they think they're fooling, exactly?

I'm secretly wishing that they held back this round of acceptances so that there was scholarship money back in the pile...I really want to go there, but man is it expensive.

Re: USC 2010!

Do they post all the DFs at once or does it roll throughout the day?
so hopeful, yet so unrealistic.
