No. I live nearby and it hadn't hit the national news yet, so I figured I'd let everyone who is hoping for a JS2 today know. I find publicly speculating about the potential effects of an ongoing bomb threat on the timing of your JS2 to be in poor taste. What is it about law school admissions that turns people into sociopaths?delilah88 wrote:No. I live nearby and it hadn't hit the national news yet, so I figured I'd let everyone who is hoping for a JS2 today know. Probably. After watching the marathon bombings happen I have a somewhat shorter fuse about this sort of thing than I used to. The sociopath thing was probably taking it too far. I maintain that it was tasteless.midwest17 wrote:Overreaction.

Re: Harvard, C/O 2017, Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
So I had my interview a couple weeks ago, and I want to share a bit about my experience to help people out in the future.
First, it is totally true that it is more small talk than it is an academic interview. I got some bad advice from a professors of mine to prepare for stuff like.... "What do you think of the Supreme Court's decision to take the Obamacare case," "Describe your favorite literary book," stuff like that. It was totally not like that. They asked me stuff like:
Why law
Describe a time I resolved a difficult situation as a leader
How I define success
What I've learned from my current job
Curiously, they did not ask me anything about why Harvard. Like, I didn't expect them to actually say, "so, why Harvard?" But I at least expected them to ask it indirectly in some way... But whatever. If they actually asked me why I want to go to Harvard I would probably have just started laughing anyway, so it probably worked to my benefit.
Additionally, I wanted to post because no one has really talked about how the pressure of the time gets to you. They tell you at the beginning you only have 15 minutes, and that got in my head--I started getting nervous that my answers were taking too long, so I rushed through them and I think this messed me up a bit.

I should add a little bit about what happened during my JS1. A lot of K-JD posters ITT said that they got questions about why they're not going to take a year off. I got a few questions about whether I'm ready to go back to school after spending 3 years out of the game. I have MBA quality work experience so I got asked a lot about that too followed by being asked why I'm going for a JD and not an MBA. The time constraint sucks though. When we got to questions, I had 5 whole minutes left and only 2 went by after my first 2 questions and she ended the interview right there. I don't think it's a big deal, but part of me wanted to yell out, "Hey, we have 3 more minutes!!!". Luckily, I held it in.

I've been out for two years and I was asked what I was most worried about returning to school.

What did you guys wear on skype? Full Suit with tie? Would shirt/blazer combo work without tie?

I wore a full suit with a tie. Always dress your best at interviews. I even experimented with the Trinity Knot for my tie.paglababa wrote:What did you guys wear on skype? Full Suit with tie? Would shirt/blazer combo work without tie?
At my Wharton interview, I went with french cuffs and a Trinity Knot and I'll let you know how that worked out soon.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
