By "meeting their # quota" does that mean you think they won't be taking anyone from the waitlist? If so, their median LSAT is going to go WAY up this year.

Unless they didn't receive a significant # of deposits on June 6th, I see no reason why they need to. Hence the reason why many of us were held/waitlisted: They assumed they could fill their class without us.

Yeah, I am hoping that some others that are admitted are waiting out some wait lists too. I'm just worried they will be waiting until the last minute to make decisions.

The admissions office has not said much the few times I have spoken to them, but I am starting to agree with the idea that they may have filled the class already and unless someone on the acceptance list leaves for another school, then those of us on the wait list will still be on it come end of August.

If you think about it, this was a great year for law schools in general due to the large rise in applications. They had the opportunity to "jump" their numbers up, and consequently their U.S. News rankings. Anyone with a mediocre GPA or LSAT was simply wait listed, at least that seems to be the case at SMU. I would imagine that the medians for both GPA and LSAT for this year are probably higher just because admissions could be more selective than in previous cycles.

Yeah, supposedly that was the story last year. Their medians jumped considerably.

I just got a call from admissions telling me I've been accepted to the full time program. I was on the waitlist. I'm hoping some money might be available but they said that the packet won't arrive for a few days! So others on the waitlist might be getting calls within the next few days too!!

I'm hoping very hard (seriously, it's a mental strain to hope this hard) that my house sells and one of you can have my spot.

Where's your house? You may be able to rent it out to TLSers for a year or so to wait for the market rebound.

45 miles away, and I doubt someone wants to rent it.

Like kalvano, I am dying to give my spot away to one of you waitlisters. I am desperately trying to get off the wait list at two other schools, and if I do (pray, cross your fingers, mediate, whatever...) I will withdraw immediately!

Update: I was just at the admissions office today and while I was there inquiring about the wait list, one of the adcoms was congratulating someone named Brian/Bryan on their acceptance off of the wait list. Not sure if that person is on this site or not, but that's two people I know of includeing Peeves who have now been accepted.

I'm moving from Houston to SMU in August. I was just wondering if anyone knows of a good, but close, off campus apartment, or any information about the best areas to move into. I've only been to Dallas a few times and am not too familiar with the area. I also have a big dog (about 70 lbs.) and I'm a little worried about an apartment complex letting me move that big mutt in the place. Any advice would be appreciated.

Try The Village at Lovers and Skillman. Big complex, close to campus, relatively cheap, safe, etc.

The dog might be a problem, but I doubt they will weigh him.

Kal, did you get into SMU part time, or full? I read on a thread somewhere that you were trying to get off a couple waitlists. Which ones?

I can tell you that right now there are literally dozens of apartments located just to the west of campus. Drive the streets and take down some phone numbers. Many of them are really nice and very expensive. Others are older and not as expensive. I'm talking about walking-distance to campus. A lot of them are independently-owned and are likely not advertised. The apartments in the Village are a good option, but the ones right by campus are tough to beat. If you found the right apartment in that area, you could actually get by without a car. Snider Plaza has everything you need.

Full. Not trying to get off any WL's. Trying to sell my house so I can go to Wake.

Any particular reason you want to go to Wake? I went there for undergrad, and the thought of spending my mid-20s in Winston Salem has me very depressed.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
