I just posted this in another thread but it totally applies to Northwestern too and i'd really appreciate some feedback.

Is it common to write a why NU essay? I didn't know it was an option and since I'm on the edge it would definitely be useful for me, but how would I go about sending that? Do I just send it to admissions and tell them that I've attached a LOCI? Would that screw me over if I'm waitlisted (which is what I'm hoping will happen) and then have little to talk about when I actually need to send a LOCI?

My interview was about 2 weeks ago so my app just recently became complete. I don't wanna keep slowing down my file but if this helps I think it would be beneficial overall. Thoughts?

Call them to ask what the proper email address is to send an addendum essay. They'll tell you and you send it off and they add it to your file. Don't make it a LOCI; make it like a Why NU?. If you're waitlisted, you can reiterate points in your application file and whatever else you want to say, but your LOCI should have a different focus and direction than your Why X.
