After not receiving a financial aid grant, I called the Fin Aid office and they just told me they made a mistake and I was supposed to get one after all. Updated award letter to be sent Thursday. Hoping for a biggie

Everything Gtown has done since that first "merit aid consideration" email went out has been a mistake. Glad they are starting to figure that out.kraffcook wrote:After not receiving a financial aid grant, I called the Fin Aid office and they just told me they made a mistake and I was supposed to get one after all. In all seriousness though, I was named an alternate initially, missed that call this morning, haven't heard back. This should be interesting...

Uh...wow.

Admitted 2/27 and have received zero information about merit aid. Should I send an email or call in regards to potential aid?

Just FYI for those waiting on that phone call, wasn't anything too decisive. I think because my initial response email was very vague and I didn't offer any type of range of what I was asking for, they wanted to clarify and get a better idea of what it would take for me to attend/better explain the weird finaid/merit process. The person I spoke with was a current student and member of the admissions committee and was very nice.MacB wrote:Everything Gtown has done since that first "merit aid consideration" email went out has been a mistake. I just had an alum interview today. Could someone who had an interview please let me know how many updates it takes until a decision? Also, how long did it take for the updates to occur? Thanks so much!

I didn't get an email or phone call yesterday and I was very straightforward about the amount of aid that it would take for me to attend so hopefully I hear something today.

OMG Georgetown never sent my any of the merit e-mails we have talked about on this forum and randomly, today, I got an e-mail from Dean Cornblatt $45,000 a year for each of the three years. They also waived all of my seat deposits.
I am blown away...

Wow, congratulations! Is it likely now that you will attend GULC?Rory19 wrote:OMG Georgetown never sent my any of the merit e-mails we have talked about on this forum and randomly, today, I got an e-mail from Dean Cornblatt $45,000 a year for each of the three years. I have still not heard anything, the amount I asked for is significantly less than what you were awarded too...

So I got in about a week ago (off spwl) and have not heard anything about possible scholarship. I have read about the email asking to state how much you need to come etc but haven't gotten anything like that, nor requested it. Should I try to reach out to gulc or wait it out?

Congratulations Rory! Wow that's quite amazing, given Georgetown's usual stinginess...could you please share your complete dates? Also, when was your interview? Thanks!Rory19 wrote:OMG Georgetown never sent my any of the merit e-mails we have talked about on this forum and randomly, today, I got an e-mail from Dean Cornblatt $45,000 a year for each of the three years. Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Yes, this seals it for me. I thought I had completely been left out of the merit aid process as ITT there were all the merit e-mails to a select group of people and then finalists and so forth. I am still in shock. I also applied for PILS and on the phone today they explained if I received PILS my total award would not likely increase because the aid cannot be more than tuition. I still very much want PILS for all of the public interest support it brings but regardless, this scholarship is over and above anything I was expecting (which was only grants).

I was accepted back in October. I never reached out to Georgetown asking to be considered for any aid. I did complete the Need Access and Yellow Form in February and received my very generous grant award last week. But then this e-mail came out of nowhere. So this scholarship supersedes my grant award, they are not "stacked". But I will take guaranteed yearly scholarship funds any day over grants based on income.

Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I didn't receive the merit finalist e-mails, so I assumed I wouldn't get much in fin. aid; also a splitter. The Dean's grant came through, about ~30K/yr., which was a shock, then I got the follow-up merit which upped it by ~10K/year. They're offering more than WUSTL, and I was expecting maybe 30-45K max.turn left wrote:Care to elaborate at all?justonemoregame wrote:Congrats, Rory, that's awesome -- similiar experience here

I had a similar experience. They emailed me today to increase my award from 22.5k to 30k a year.

Wait, I thought they didn't stack. Or is that what you're saying?justonemoregame wrote:I didn't receive the merit finalist e-mails, so I assumed I wouldn't get much in fin. aid; also a splitter. Its not that they are stacking. The wording is, "This scholarship, in combination with any need-based grants you may receive or have received from Georgetown, is for $XX,XXX total for each of three years of full time study here at the Law Center."

Congrats on the scholarships guys!!! Glad they opened up the checkbook for some deserving candidates.
It seems like the medians that Georgetown is targeting might be coming into focus.

Thanks everyone! I hope this is a sign that those who felt slighted initially for not being "invited" for merit aid consideration will receive funding soon.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
