Oh well, off to Cornell I go.
Good luck to everyone else waiting!

Re: U Washington 2011 Applicants
Just got the email, "would you still like to remain on our waitlist?" Don't know if that means they've filled all available spots and are keeping a late summer waitlist, or if they're still open seats and they want to know if we're still interested. I had almost given up on UW, but maybe I'll hold out.

Re: U Washington 2011 Applicants
I'm guessing they are anticipating some withdrawals as some admitted applicants might be accepted off a waitlist for a more desired school. But there are no guarantees, especially in such a competitive cycle, so I have no expectations to be admitted.cinephile wrote:Just got the email, "would you still like to remain on our waitlist?" Yep, got this email too. Good luck!purplebus wrote:My heart jumped when I saw the email from Mr. Le, but I got the "you're still on the waitlist" email. The email did mention that a majority of waitlisted students have been removed. Good luck to everyone, whether you now know where you are going in the Fall, or if you are still on the waitlist.

Has anyone been accepted off the waitlist recently? If so, is accepting their offer binding and require you to withdraw elsewhere? Would like to hear more about this, PM me if you'd prefer.

Were you accepted off the waitlist then? I would think you are free to accept and pay deposits whenever you wish right up until your tuition is due.cinephile wrote:Has anyone been accepted off the waitlist recently? Thanks. I was also wondering if you're required to put down a deposit right away. I know I have to make a "decision" within 48 hours, but wasn't clear if that meant another deposit. I was also wondering if anyone let in off the waitlist at this point was offered any scholarship aid.

Re: U Washington 2011 Applicants
You'll be expected to deposit 'as soon as possible.' It's not a hard deadline, it's a request that you send it as soon as possible, and if it's still the case, it's requested that you send it right to the law school, rather than following the deposit channel for normal admits (you'll eventually get a request from the main UW registrar to send a deposit along with an attendance confirmation form, which you can ignore).
I don't know that I'd bank on receiving any scholarships if you're out-of-state, which based on your profile I'm guessing you are.

Is it difficult to gain residency for tuition purposes for OOS students? I'd like to attend UW but I really need to get in-state tuition after the first year to be able to afford it.

From what I understand, everyone gets the in-state waiver 2L and 3L. Just follow the normal procedures (change voting registration, driver's license, etc.) and you won't get residency, but you will get an equivalent waiver.dumbledore wrote:Is it difficult to gain residency for tuition purposes for OOS students? I'm jealous. I'd love to live in Seattle. Did you send in an LOCI? How much did you stay in contact with the admissions committee? I have sent them an updated resume and responded to a few emails but that is it.

I sent two LOCIs. I understand the jealousy - I felt it for all those accepted before me. Today, I feel lucky, no doubt about it.

Now I will be checking my phone (rather than my email) frantically. Thanks for the information. Keeping my fingers crossed!DarthWenger wrote:I sent two LOCIs. I understand the jealousy - I felt it for all those accepted before me. Today, I feel lucky, no doubt about it.
Will an admitted student please post the dates for orientation? I'm just curious :)

Re: U Washington 2011 Applicants
Bad news: I heard from a coworker, who is friends with a student/assistant that was on one of the admissions committees, that decisions regarding the remaining waitlisted applicants would be made by the end of June. The latest acceptance (DarthWenger) kind of reinforces what I was told.
Good news/hope?: The statement of intention (post deposit) for admitted students was due July 1st. I imagine once they review all of these from admitted students, maybe some room will open up... at least that's what I want to believe.

I can't believe you have an inside contact on the the admissions committee. You need to give us the play-by-play! What exactly is the statement of intention? Is it binding at that point?purplebus wrote:Bad news: I heard from a coworker, who is friends with a student/assistant that was on one of the admissions committees, that decisions regarding the remaining waitlisted applicants would be made by the end of June. Re: U Washington 2011 Applicants
Haha, I wish I knew more. I didn't even know my coworker was friends with someone on the committee until about 3 weeks ago. This is literally all the info I have been able to get, and only because my coworker brought it up with her friend after realizing how anxious I've been about being on the waitlist for so long. Needless to say, the news I got from her was kind of depressing after I realized calls were made on Friday.dumbledore wrote:I can't believe you have an inside contact on the the admissions committee. As for the statement of intension, you can see it here: http://www.law.washington.edu/Admission ... ntForm.pdf
More info, and timeline: http://www.law.washington.edu/admission ... nroll.aspx
Given the timeline, and it being post deposit, I sounds binding...

Wow, thanks for the information. I can't believe how late classes begin. I'm really hoping that I get some good news in the next few weeks because classes start on 08/22 where I am currently deposited. I think the Statement of Intention might be my last shot. Hopefully some seats open up as a result. In the meantime I'll be stalking TLS and LSN. Can't wait to see your exciting "IN OFF THE WAITLIST" post :)

Me too, I have to say it is very comforting reading TLS and knowing that other people are in the same boat. My backup school (SU) starts on 08/22 also. Thanks for the good thoughts, I hope we all get in!dumbledore wrote:Wow, thanks for the information. I can't believe how late classes begin. Re: U Washington 2011 Applicants
Called the admissions office to see if there were any updates and I was told that now that the deposits/statements of intention are in, there are currently more admits intending on enrolling than the maximum class size, which they are still trying to sort out. They didn't expect any movement on the waitlist because of this dilema, but still left open the possibility of it happening 1-2 weeks before classes start at the end of September. Oh well, I had some hope, but should have expected this result.
