So you're willing to make the 11.3% jump to call UCLA and Vandy peers, but not the 6.6% jump to call USC and UCLA peers? Hmmm...
Dipper, I don't know why you specifically want to attend UCLA, but it would be foolish not to send USC an app as well. Solicit a fee waiver if you don't already have one. Good luck.
IMO the only indicators of success are fed clerk rate + large firm score and salary reporting rate (which I think is a indicator due to its self-selecting nature). The aggregate employment number is so dirty you can't look at it like that. Otherwise, Yale would be TTT. Even if you exclude Yale since it's a unicorn and puts out judges and politicians instead of biglawyers, Vandy would theoretically be a better school than georgetown, mich, and NU.
Nobody said don't apply to USC, but unless there's some significant scholarship incentive (idk how good USC is with giving money), UCLA is TCR. He's already in at UCLA, I'm skeptical about how successful he'll be trying to use USC to solicit more scholarship money.

I haven't negotiated $$ yet, but the problem I see with using USC for that is the COA. Adcoms would have to take this into account when reviewing potential scholly bumps (right?). Although LSN shows USC gives more $$ (at least for my stats), it's not even close to making up for the difference in COA. I would apply anyway just in case something crazy happens but that's not necessarily to say it's a statistically reasonable choice.
ETA: I know you weren't directly arguing this point, rather that they are peers in general.

Your argument makes it impossible to call ANY two schools peers, because no two schools have identical biglaw+A3clerk placement. But you are throwing around the term, so here's a rudimentary lesson:
SIMILAR RANK + SIMILAR OUTCOMES + SAME CITY = PEER.
It can be inferred that Dipper has the desire to be in LA/Southern California and wants a decent shot at the most desirable employment outcomes. Dipper seems concerned about scholarship money. Dipper asked if (s)he should apply to USC as well.
The answer to that question will always be yes.

Seconding rigo and IIRC USC has had a free app this year so there's really no reason not to apply.

Hi everyone,
I sent in most of my apps bar one or two and most are now at "complete" or "UR". ONE school that had me at "completion pending" for weeks suddenly emailed me to ask for a transcript update. I e-mailed them back asking if they'd be willing to accept a scanned copy instead of an official LSAC one because I don't want an extra document to LSAC slowing down everything else. I'm really not hiding anything; I only took a few extra classes and have maintained all As, meaning my uGPA only went up. I didn't bother updating before because my newest transcript was only just recently issued and a few hundredths' point difference wouldn't be worth the trouble of slowing down everything else.
Now my big worry is this: all others have me at "complete" -- is there a chance they will suddenly realize what the above school realized and, AFTER having me at complete for weeks, ask for an updated transcript?

Just send the transcript into LSAC. Other schools might ask and now that the holidays are over they should be faster in processing it.

yeah, this. plus, schools that don't care about your new semester grades won't care even if you have transcripts processing. I got two decisions in between emailing schools that I was sending in new grades and LSAC actually processing those grades. it won't slow anything down unless the schools already wanted the new grades/were waiting for them in the first place.

Even if all others show me as complete or under review, they might still e-mail me and ask for an updated transcript?
Ah, if it helps, I am an international and already have been ranked "superior". Maybe should have mentioned that...

Do schools ever release decisions over the weekend?

Yale has made calls on Saturdays. Mich status checker has updated with decisions on Saturdays too but I think that it just loads data that was entered the previous day.

So a few of the schools I applied to updated the status checker with blank First Deposit/Second Deposit spots. Indicative of anything or blowing smoke up my ass?

Applied to ten schools on 11/18 and have not gotten decisions from any of them.
Anyone else having a similar cycle?

Do y'all think that the employment outlook for the c/o 2018 will be significantly better, considering the continuing reduction in applicants?

Unfortunately, no. Because it's not the reduction in applicants that will affect employment outlook, but reduction in law school graduates. And at least at the top, schools didn't really drop their class size in c/o 2017 (summed; some individual schools did), so I wouldn't expect them to do so for c/o 2018. Also, I would think it takes a few years for employment trends to materialize (although that's just a guess).

That's not really true. 1L enrollment actually dropped nearly 5% this year from last year and is down well over 25% from the 2010 high.

Who knows. The biggest matriculant drops have been at TTT's where the employment outlook will continue to be gloomy.
Sites like LegalZoom will probably continue to make many shitlaw jobs obsolete, and attrition will probably happen to some degree.
Biglaw appears to be surging, but that outcome is limited to a small proportion of the overall graduates.

Sry, should have clarified that when I said "at the top" I meant T14. I took a look at the c/o 2017 spreadsheet before posting my original reply, and saw that the T14 increased their enrolment by 74 1L's. No idea about the rest of the schools however, so I guess that's where those aggregate numbers you mentioned come in.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
