I just got the email saying they cannot increase my scholarship. I will be withdrawing and heading to Illinois next year. Good luck!

"Thanks so much for keeping in touch with our office. Unfortunately, the scholarship committee has let me know that we will not be able to increase your scholarship award this year. I am so sorry I do not have better news for you and very much appreciate your patience with this process.0LNewbie wrote:Sorry to hear that. Did they provide any reasoning at all? Yeah, it's too bad. I'm still coming, though. Just a few thousand dollars poorer at the end.

When did you guys send your requests? does the fact that I havn't got the no email yet reflect that they're bumping me to a full ride plus stipend?

Also denied extra $$. I'll still be attending this year barring WL movement, but that sucks.

TBF I was pissed when Vandy did the same thing to me last year. Hard not to be. They weren't nearly as nice about it, though.splitmuch wrote:Verity wrote:Got the same boilerplate BS. F them.

No, just F them for leading us on and then mass denying us. I mean seriously, unless there are tons of trolls ITT, they've got some extra cash. If they can't even throw a couple extra grand my way, then I'll look to those who do.splitmuch wrote:Verity wrote:Got the same boilerplate BS. F them.

My thought is that they may have over extend finaid offers as well as admissions in anticipations of withdrawals so they might not actually have tons of cash

Sucks you guys were denied. I was pretty mad that they didn't consider my UIUC full ride or my T14 acceptances and throw a little extra at me. But you guys can't complain too much, because it seems like your class have gotten bigger scholarships than people in past years. Or at least that's what it seems like to me.

When people say, "I'm withdrawing, hope you guys get my seat and money," you almost certainly aren't getting their seat or money. WUSTL, like all schools, overextends offers and money knowing that people are going to withdraw. Unless they get more withdrawals than expected, then there isn't more money in the pot, so there is no extra money to give 0Ls.

I had far less leverage. So that makes me feel better. And in a way, mad at you for not teaching them a lesson by chasing the money.romothesavior wrote:Sucks you guys were denied. I read an interesting article about how this entire law school process is a big game of stats, opportunity cost, valuations, etc, but individual 0Ls can't play it correctly because we only get one iteration, whereas the law schools perfect it year after year and with 1000s of students each year. It's a lot easier for them to get it right. That resonated with me.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was your scholarship offer? I am in a similar boat (couple t14 and full tuition at SMU and UIUC).romothesavior wrote:Sucks you guys were denied. Re: WUSTL 2011 Cycle
This makes me feel better. I asked them to match my offer at UIUC (about 10k more a year) and got shot down. If they had it would have sealed the deal for me. Now I'm back to sitting on the fence with UIUC vs WUSTL.
I understand they overextend on the money front, but I'd imagine they throw the most money at the students least likely to attend, so I just don't buy the fact that they don't have the money laying around. I think they see that the class is shaping up to be full or near full and unless you're someone who would have qualified for near full ride anyway they don't want you bad enough to pay for it. Why pay someone who barely budges the medians when they could take a small median hit for someone off the WL for full sticker. Law schools want high medians, but they also want tuition.

Re: WUSTL 2011 Cycle
I'll be attending WUSTL in the fall. I was offered the same scholarship package at WUSTL and UIUC.... originally I really liked Illinois, but I talked to a few employers in my area (mainline PA area) and none of them even knew Illinois was a good school... but all of them were like "Washington University... thats a great school!" Don't know if anyones planning on going to that area, but its food for thought. I'm sure Illinois is much more well known in the midwest.
But excited for wash u!!

Re: WUSTL 2011 Cycle
Ugh, im still stuck between UIUC and Wash U. I'm well settled into Champaign and it would be cheaper for me, but I think Wash U is the better overall school. Why couldn't they just throw me another few thousand and make it easy?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
