Michigan is my top choice! I haven't applied long enough ago to make my stressing legitimate, but yet, here I am.

Yeah, I'd take that just as I said. They reviewed and you aren't out but they aren't going to hand out a pile of acceptances this year all at once. I doubt it affects your odds of admissions either way. They just like to keep people updated (as previous classes have requested).

This has always been my interpretation of the hold e-mail. For all non-auto-admits, they want to see what their class is shaping up to look like before they give out more admittances.

Couldn't hurt. I'd emphasize what you plan to do with the degree and what you bring to the class. A lot of people seem to have some unique story here. (e.g. worked for NGO in iraq, military experience, helped start a tequila distillery in Mexico, published, etc.)

@Blowhard,

my assessment was based on FMaze's experience, not on anything else. If you think I was out of line, I suggest reading back over the last few pages and you can see what happened to FMaze (summary: tried to get out of ED, was basically told "no chance").

Not saying Michigan was out of line: I completely understand why a school would try to cajole EDers into honoring what they've signed up for.

I was quoting you because you were on this page already... The only person I think who may be acting shady here is FMaze. The post is up now. Read it and decide for yourself.

FWIW, I trust Dean Z and have never heard even a hint of her and her staff no owning up if they made a mistake or did something.

Also, I am not the student mentioned who brought this to her attention...

I for one am certainly no UM kool-aid drinker (thanks to my perceived out-of-hand rejection...), but it's nice to see what happens when people who actually make the decisions are brought into a conversation. We could have saved yesterday's pages of speculation for more worthwhile endeavors such as figuring out whether anyone actually works in USC admissions.

Thanks. I have a pretty clear story of what I want to do with my degree that I thought I told in my original materials. Can't hurt to reinforce though.

After that blog post, I feel like I can call UM at the end of the cycle and ask why I was one of the first to be denied (with perfect numbers for UM, IMO). I have a feeling they'll give me a decent explanation.

I'm sure they would. They'd probably do it now if they wouldn't get inundated with requests.

FMaze wrote:Just as an FYI. . . for those who may have read that setting aside an ED is doable―that certainly was not my experience. I figured since I was a reach, they would happily offer my seat to someone more worthy. Instead, I received a lecture about the obligations of an ED. I felt like I was under interrogation to disclose the name of the Florida law school I was prepared to opt out to. Since I chose not to say, the conversation went in circles. I finally said I would purchase a pair of woolen mittens and a heavy coat and I would be there in the fall. They said, I would not need them in the fall― yeah, right.

I know I’ll propably like it, but. . . .
