Re: U Penn 2010
This whole cycle is very strange. It seems like they are not reviewing apps in the order in which completed. I went complete mid Jan. Was UCR 1/29 and accepted on 2/19. Im 170/3.89, so nothing special (by Penn standards). Based purely on anecdotal evidence I think high GPA applicants are out performing this cycle. Maybe a push to a more SLS/Boalt style policy? Who knows?castellon wrote:172, 3.76calicocat wrote:exactly the same, what are your guys' stats?neimanmarxist wrote:+1castellon wrote:UCR 1/29 then 2/18. Still waiting...

Could be, though I'm more inclined to think it's probably more of a short-term strategy to capitalize on the surge in applicants (if anything).quetzalcoatl wrote:

Hey all,
I sent in a "Why Penn/5 Year Plan" essay to their "contactadmissions" email address a few days ago. Have not received a reply or confirmation yet, but I just went UCR today.
Would love to attend Penn... should I call them and make sure they received it fine?

so no thoughts on this? 5 months and all i've gotten is a grade request that i sent in a while ago. i don't understand people who are upset over being under review for a monthLmao Zedong wrote:i've been complete since 10/06. am i looking at hearing back soon?

Re: U Penn 2010
Probably true, but ive always wondered when other schools in the lower t14 (8-14) would start copying Boalts 'gaming' strategy. If you accept a kid with a high GPA and an average LSAT (t14 standards), one in which his chances of getting into a YHSCCN are fairly low because of his/her score, while rejecting higher scorers that dont meet your "holistic review standards" (a euphemism for YP), you can lower your acceptance rate and raise your yield (since you increase your chances of being the top school the applicant is admitted to and you weed out the kids that will likely attend a better school). Just check out Boalts LSN, its a sea of red. Obviously this strategy would only work if just a few schools try it, but I wouldnt be suprised if more schools give it a shot.AngryAvocado wrote:Could be, though I'm more inclined to think it's probably more of a short-term strategy to capitalize on the surge in applicants (if anything).quetzalcoatl wrote:

Would a targeted recommendation and a LOCI help at all with Penn waitlist, or is WL really just a soft ding?
