3rd post-interview update today. No change in citizenship. Either a waitlist/ding email is on the way or Gtown is really enjoying taking their sweet time.

Status update today too. No citizenship, no email yet. Is the citizenship a necessary condition for an acceptance, or just a sufficient one?

"No scholarship" email here, too. I'm sitting on my hands because right now all I want to do is write an angry email about how they asked me to jump through hoops to be considered for the scholarship, then nothing.

Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
In reference to our need based aid discussion earlier today, here is a quote from their website:
This makes me feel even better about my award!!Awards are generally renewable at the same level for up to 2 additional years of full-time study at Georgetown Law (1 additional year for transfer students). Changes significantly affecting the financial situation of the student, student's spouse and/or student's parent(s) may affect the level or availability of grant assistance in future years. In addition, students earning significant pay through summer employment (e.g., working as law firm summer associates) are expected to use a portion of their earnings for their education and, accordingly, are likely to have their grant assistance reduced for the following year.

I feel you. Not particularly impressed with the way Georgetown handled things.TripTrip wrote:"No scholarship" email here, too. Long time lurker on TLS, first posting.
Anyone know what the chances of getting in off the regular wait list are?
167 / 3.62 - NYU Undergrad. Just got the wait list email this afternoon at 5:17pm, if anyone is interested.

I'm hoping to get merit $ here, but I have heard nothing since december and I already submitted all my fin aid materials.Lighthouseman wrote:Just got the 'no scholarship' email. Was really expcting $$. Will withdraw today. Hope this opens up a spot for someone!
prediction: with so many schools offering generous merit scholarships, georgetown loses its medians & falls off T14 to texas or ucla if it doesn't start offering good money to strong interested candidates

priority wait list. I didn't attend the group interview though so I was kind of expecting a WL.

Well, at least they finally got back to me after more than a month

I will be joining this preferred waitlist at Georgetown. I am unsure on my chances of actually getting in off of it though. I plan on staying on it. Any recommendations for the email stating my interest? Should I make it into a LOCI or keep it brief?

Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
So here is my story of GULC shenanigans.
I applied in September and was admitted either September/October. Didn't hear anything from them for forever.
When other people started getting scholarship emails, and then being told that they weren't finalists, it made me think I wasn't even being considered.
I tried to withdraw and received a reply email later that day asking me if I was sure and telling me that I would be considered for aid and should write a little note about why I liked the school.
I said sure and wrote a nice little email about how much I value gov't etc. (all true. Wish other schools had programs like their National security program).
Received the "no scholarship for you" email today telling me if I waited I might get reconsidered and they hope I still come in the fall.
You kidding? I said I withdraw if you don't give me money, you reply telling me not to and then don't do anything about it? I realize this comes across as entitled. I don't care. GULC is easily the worst at the admissions process/ finaid of the T-14. I really like some of the schools programs, but between the employment stats and their tiny scholarship amounts and numbers how are they still ranked so highly?

I can't WAIT to see what impact this ridiculousness has on their ranking next year. I'm sticking around until April 5th just so they can give me one more slap in the face by really, finally offering me zip and then I'm outie.

Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
This won't have any impact on their rankings...they can just maintain medians by lowering class size. Their incoming 1L classes are like 500-550...and then even more after they add transfers. The Class of 2012 was over 600 students. They can afford to lose dozens of kids. The VAST majority of applicants up and down the entire rankings food chain have never even heard of TLS, let alone visit it and read the threads. They're likely unaware of this stuff and still probably think paying sticker at GULC is a good idea. Even if every GULC applicant on TLS withdrew from GULC, they could maintain medians if they just shrunk their class.MacB wrote:jbagelboy wrote:prediction: with so many schools offering generous merit scholarships, georgetown loses its medians & falls off T14 to texas or ucla if it doesn't start offering good money to strong interested candidates

Whether they prioritize medians or revenue, or if they even have to make that decision remains to be seen. Being stingy with scholly isn't anything new for GULC...they just changed how they do it.

This, but there was some statement from somebody (lol vague) at GULC that they can't drop their class sizes much due to the needed tuition revenue, which is probably why they're stingy with merit aid.cusenation wrote:This won't have any impact on their rankings...they can just maintain medians by lowering class size. Also, GULC admits 2542 full time students, of which ~510 matriculate, so they're used to plenty of people not accepting their offer.

I was present when the Dean of the law school said this to a group of alums and admits.HankBashir wrote:This, but there was some statement from somebody (lol vague) at GULC that they can't drop their class sizes much due to the needed tuition revenue, which is probably why they're stingy with merit aid.cusenation wrote:This won't have any impact on their rankings...they can just maintain medians by lowering class size. If that's true and they can't shrink the class size then I definitely think they take a tumble in the rankings. They will never find a shortage of kids willing to pay sticker. But they won't be the high number kids that are getting scholarships from Duke, UVA, etc.

Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Actually I'm pretty sure that's why they didn't give me money. I was really vague about it in my response to their "Why should we give you money" email. I said something like, "full tuition scholarships at other schools" and that I would love to see a "significant scholarship" at G-town.callipygian wrote:Anyone responded with scholarship offers from higher ranked law schools?
I don't think Georgetown wants to compete with other schools for scholarships much.

Does anyone with need-based Dean's grants know just how *required* the parental tax returns are? It's listed in My Access as an unsatisfied req. I don't know those people. I doubt they even filed.

Decision email today, "preferred waitlist". Already in at another T14 with aid offers at T20s, and I assume WL -> admit means even less chance of a scholarship offer, so I'm probably gonna withdraw.

I'm a scholarship finalist and didn't receive the "no merit aid" email yesterday...should I take that as a good sign?
