Has anybody here sent Emory any supplemental materials, such as a LOCI or additional LoR? I know that they say in their 'complete' e-mail that they discourage any additional documents, but is this a hard and fast rule?

I wrote a "Why Emory?" essay, and sent it about a week after I was complete. My acceptance letter was dated 4 days later. I have NO idea if it helped or not. If your numbers are competitive, I don't see how it can hurt. In his thread, EmoryRob (the admissions staffer) said if Emory is your first choice, they want to know that.

the university center housed the bookstore, eateries and some other things (i didn't wander around it too much). it was nice & pretty busy.

The Dobbs University Center? Some of the worst architecture I have ever seen. Einstein Bagels in there is tasty, but the cafeteria food is disgusting. As a law student, you will probably barely go here anyways.

i was told that there were several apartment complexes that run free buses to the campus

Buses are incredibly unreliable. Better off biking or driving.

So, who on this thread is leaning toward Emory right now? And where else are you considering? For me, if the $$$ offer is decent at all, I'll be there in the fall.

Going into this whole process Emory was my first choice, and I would absolutely love to go there. Buuut, after seeing my scholly offer from W&L, Emory is gonna have to poney up. And I have this fear that what I get offered is not going to match what I am wanting to get offered.

If Emory gives you money, Atlanta is a great market to be in, and probably a lot harder to break into from W&L. That is, if you want to be around Atlanta at all after graduation.

It looks like we got the same exact offer from W&L. I think you've got to make the decision based on where you want to be when you're done, regardless of the $$$ offer. Obviously, if Emory were to offer no money, that would be a huge obstacle compared to 34k/yr from W&L. But if the offer is within 10-15k a year, I think your prospects after graduation have to play a huge role in your decision. Either way, I think there's a great chance you and I end up classmates next year!

Snail mail. It was a big packet of stuff.

*** Also, for anyone who's interested, this may be good information to know. All I received from Emory was an email the day after I submitted my application letting me know they received it. They never sent an "application complete" email or an application status checker, or any other type of communication. The letter in the mail was a COMPLETE shock. So if you're like me and worried that you haven't heard enough from them, apparently that might not be a bad thing.

No status checker for Emory, they just send out an e-mail or two (if that) once you go complete and then the packet comes via snail mail.

Finally went complete today. Submitted on 1/19. Whoooo.... I guess my GPA is quite a bit below what they're admitting as of this moment. Hopefully that changes over the next two months.

Since Emory is so far behind on admissions this year, how do you think this affects their class?

For example, Emory would be a strong contender for me, but I will be travelling over the summer and with other ASWs filling my time between now and then Im not sure when I would be able to visit if admitted. Not visiting a school that I am going to for three years is a bit worrisome to me

Got an email today inviting admitted students to apply for a position as Res Life House Director. I haven't gotten an admission packet yet...does this mean I'm in?

I've been complete since before XMas, and haven't heard anything since. People with lower #s and with later complete dates have already been admitted, so I was starting to get a little concerned.

Seconded. I like the school and $$$ would make me take a hard look at them since I've already visited, but if I don't get in till late and I've become enamored of some other school... c'mon Emory. Give me a chance, give yourself a chance. I didn't visit for nothing, I hope...

I think it means you're for sure in--I don't see them sending an email to people who havent gotten in yet, asking them to apply for a position that only admitted students can take
