Some cool neighborhoods that are relatively affordable are Capitol Hill and the Washington Park area. The neigborhoods right around campus in south Denver are decent too although the nightlife leaves a bit to be desired around there...I've also heard a lot of students live down in the suburbs like in Littleton if that's your thing.

If you've got the money check out LoDo and Cherry Creek, both real cool places to live.

I currently live in Denver and have been here for 5 years. I have lived in the DU area, Cherry Creek, Capitol Hill & now I currently live in "Uptown" (it's more of a label the developers put on the area than an actual neighborhood--it's downtown). You will be SURROUNDED by undergraduate students and constant house/frat parties in the immediate DU area--trust me, I went to school there. The only "bars" there are the dive/campus bars that are full of underage students. Cherry Creek is nice and all but after living and working there you realize that it is pretty boring, no night life nor lightrail stop and most of the people that live there have families or they live here seasonally. Capitol Hill is awesome--I LOVED living there. You can find really reasonable rent because the whole area is ALL apartments. But be careful because it is very transient and there are a lot of dumpy places, especially the ones you can find online (and bed bugs are a big problem in this area!). As for downtown, I love living here because I can walk to 16th street (where my job happens to be), Coors Field and LoDo. There's also a handful of lightrail stops within a square mile of where I live. You want to avoid Five Points because it is the sketchy part of Denver.

Personally I would not recommend living in Littleton, Centennial or any of the suburbs simply because you can find a cheap place in the actual city and not have to commute. The lightrail is great but it sucks to have to take it to go out on the weekends because it only runs until 2 am and you have to battle the crowds for the outbound trips.

We're actually renting our place out as soon as I decide where I'm going to law school....

I've been looking at apartments online and found a few places that seem nice and are on or near the light rail, but I was wondering if anybody had an opinion on them:

The District
Arabella
Ceilo

If you could leave an address and/or cross-street I could probably tell you something about the area it is in

Today, 3/23, it said my decision has been rendered. If I am rejected, will I hear through snail mail or through e-mail?

I went to decision processed today too.

They will most likely send out email tomorrow and then an additional email that same day regarding scholarship. I found this out by reading the first few pages of this thread.

Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestions! Def don't have the $ for LoDo or Cherry Creek, but I'll be sure to check out the other areas.

It's not clear, to me at least, that there's any relationship between the time it will say "decision rendered" and an acceptance e-mail will appear. It's also not clear if they ding people by e-mail. So I really don't know much, except that after only 12 days of being in review, they made a decision. Of course, that's faster than some other schools, so I really can't complain. Hopefully, I will know soon enough.

And good luck to you, too.

Just received my rejection letter from Denver yesterday, 3/23. The online status checker went "decision processed" on 3/11.

Has anyone on here had success negotiating scholarships? Even with my scholarship, I'm still going over $100k in debt, which scares me.

I am negotiating to get a scholarship to start with as I haven't received any offer one month after my acceptance. E-mailed Dean Davis yesterday.

Hey everyone, I've finally decided to attend DU PT based on many reasons, but also because of scholarship money.

Im originally from Aurora, CO but currently am in AZ for my undergrad. Im trying to look for a place to live near DU, but is kind of difficult since I'm not there to look around at different apts. If anyone has found any good deals or is possibly interested in a roommate, let me know!

Congrats on your decision! I've been looking for apt. for the last couple weeks, it is definitely difficult since I also live out of state (Wisconsin). Are you planning on attending ASD? My wife and I are planning to attend and then spend the next 2-3 days looking at apts, so we should, I HOPE, have some information on some apts after that.

Again Congrats!

Yup. About an hour ago. Does the scholarship info come in the big packet?

To those who were accepted:

First, congratulations. Second, if you guys have a second, can you tell me the relevant information, like the date you went under review and your numbers?

The only street I even recognize is Hampton which is south of the school in the "older burbs" 60-70s houses. Will be near the school but about 25 mins from downtown in good traffic.

The only place I can recommend near campus is where I lived for a year when i first moved here. The place was called the Marks Apartments. It was decent, big complex, and about 5 mins from school. newer place, about 15 years old and had washer dyer hookups. http://www.forrent.com/apartment-commun ... 002487.php I lived on the first floor. If I was doing it again I would have lived on the third (top) floor because is seemed like the ceilings were pretty thin. Never heard anything from my neighbors but the people above me were loud. I think I had the second smallest one bedroom. There was plenty of space in the living room for my sofa and two desks.

BTW good CHEAP huge desk idea. I went to home depot and got a plain white indoor door for like $35 then put that on top of two file cabinets behind my sofa. It made a HUGE desk, cheap, with plenty of space to spread out all my books and stuff in law school. I still use that desk in my home office now that I have my own house. Its great, best desk I have ever had. I had some pics I can post if anyone is intrested.

Second this.

I live in Cap Hill/Uptown area and LOVE it. Its, well, best way to describe it, eclectic, young professionals, families, drag queens, people with their faces tattooed, homeless folks and crack heads all in one place. I mean you have to be able to deal with city life to live down here, expect to get asked for change every time to hit a corner, but hell I'm walking distance to the courthouses, the capital and tons of bars. It's not "unsafe" there is no place around here I would not, or have not walked around drunk at 4AM. But there is some drug and small time crime. Don't leave your laptop/purse/briefcase in your car overnight parked on the street that kind of stuff. But little to no violent crime or anything like that.

But if you decide to live anywhere in cap Hill or Uptown make sure your place has PARKING. Parking sucks, parking on the street is a nightmare, finding a spot after 5Pm is a total PIA. So get a place with parking or look elsewhere. You can tell the people whose cars are regular parked on the street, they are the ones who are missing a side view mirror. Seriously, don't rent/buy anyplace near downtown that does not INCLUDE PARKING. Even if u have to pay more for it, its worth it. trust me.

Matthies, thanks for the details! My wife had actually looked the the Marks but was concerned about the distance to DU since its not near the light rail. We are only going to have 1 car, so I am destined to use public transportation. Did you ever have to take the bus to DU from the Marks? I'd be interested to know the ease and time it took. Also, besides the Marks, what other places did you stay at? Even if they are not close to DU, the light rail seems easy enough to get around with.

Thanks again

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
