just received my acceptance with 7k per year. i would for sure attend, if it was guaranteed that i could work as general counsel for nike, but i don't think that is the case. lol

I would love to go to ASD but I can't afford the travel expenses. Oregon intrigues me though. It's still more expensive, even with a scholarship, than other schools I've been accepted to but I think I would really like to live in the PNW.

In today, but I am going to have a problem choosing it over L&C and even Loyola LA. How are you guys justifying it over l&C specifially?

Most people outside of the Northwest have never even heard of L&C in my experience.

Here in Denver, U of O enjoys a good reputation according to a partner at a large firm I'm family friends with.

Also, they have a great football team and tuition is very low.

I'm from Oregon, so in-state tuition at UO and identical career prospects to L&C make UO a no-brainer favorite for me. Also, Cal4future, it's great to know that UO holds a more expansive positive reputation that L&C does.

The thing I've noticed about UO's reputation is that the law program is known for its well-roundedness; instead of simply having one program that is nationally known, there are several programs ranked in the top 10 in their categories (environmental, dispute resolution, and legal writing). Also, the building is gorgeous (esp. when compared to L&C--most of L&C's classrooms are literally boxes with no windows), and I like the campus feel much more. I attended UO undergrad for three of my four years, and I absolutely love the campus and Eugene. L&C felt more like a commuter law school when I visited, which I didn't like. It seemed like a majority of the students lived off-campus and only came for classes, which would likely hinder study group opportunities and so forth.

Overall, I think UO provides more options at a better cost than L&C does. I adore L&C--always have--but most of that lies in the fact that it's in Portland, which is highly convenient for me. Although I'll have to relocate to attend UO, I definitely think the benefits that I'll see coming out of school there will exceed the benefits I'd reap coming from Lewis and Clark or another school.

As far as reputation goes, University of Oregon as an institution is more widely known than Lewis and Clark. This may not be too important to some but when I say I went to XXX school, it would be nice if people knew what I was talking about, not just other lawyers.

I would say both U Oregon and L&C will give you good job prospects in Portland. They're about equal if you stay anywhere in Oregon, really, at least in regard to jobs.

TITCR. I live in Portland now and have talked to a few representatives from large and mid-size firms here, and all of the attorneys I've spoken with speak just as highly of UO as L&C--they are both regarded well in the city. I've also spoken candidly with a couple of friends who are starting (1-3 year) associates, and they feel the same way. I've been told specifically by several practicing lawyers that L&C will offer no additional edge when compared with UO. If you definitely want to cement your chances in Portland, look for work here during the summers, instead of in Eugene (which also shouldn't be a problem, based on the information I've been given). Hope that helps!

UO is a lot cheaper in-state, though, so it's a big difference over 3 years (my savings will be 30k just based on tuition).

My personal opinion, as a lifelong Portlander, UO undergrad alumni, and employee of a lawyer in Portland... they are pretty much the same. Arguably, with UO you have a much wider alumni/networking base and name recognition. And, in my opinion, probably a better quality of "student life." If I didn't get into UW I'd be choosing between the two and would probably end up choosing UO, even though my employer wants me to stay in Portland and work with him while going to L&C. The cost difference (no scholarship love from LC) is a huge factor, and it's just a "different feel" at L&C. Reminded me of Portland State University, where I went freshman year of UG... so many commuters and people who just wanted to get through school, where as at UO it was a different "pace," people are there for the school experience, not just to get a degree. Also, my boss, a UO grad (whose former law partner was a L&C grad) thinks the two are pretty equally represented but leans toward UO has being more academically and intellectually rigorous.

Also, the people I know from UO UG who are now at the law school down there LOVE it. LOVE it. One person I know who graduated from L&C Law is having a hard time finding work across the country, and was working at a big box store for awhile...
