I've heard both extremes. One of my best friends who was accepted two cycles ago said his Chi interviewer was by far the nicest he had -- and he got into H so he had a lot of T-14 interview.

Word. I am sure it varies. I am just glad that I know there's a possibility it will be tough so that I'm not freakin out if/when they're being stone cold to me

I feel super dumb since I never used Skype before, so the e-mail from Chicago says to make a unique username so it is easy to find. When I set-up my Skype account it didn't have me make a username, I just created an account with my e-mail. Lol
So do I just give Chicago my e-mail? Lol

Yes.. This is really confusing. In the past Skype literally had a username such as "poptart123." However, now I believe your username is your first and last name, John Doe. Chi should be able to find you by the email you registered and provided them with or by the phone number you may have given Skype.beantheshadow wrote:I feel super dumb since I never used Skype before, so the e-mail from Chicago says to make a unique username so it is easy to find. Ah I see. I had my best friend make a Skype account so I could see how easy it was to find me by first and last name! lolol

Damn I was looking forward to creating a username.

Re: Chicago C/O 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
1L here, I think I applied in October and interviewed in January. I also freaked out about the Skype interview because I had heard UChi interviewers were mean (mine wasn't).
I got two political questions. The other questions did not adhere to that list completely but had some of the obvious ones. I also completely bombed a non-political question to the point that I felt I had to acknowledge how ridiculously bad my answer was and she laughed and reframed the question, which was pretty not-mean. Feel free to PM if you want any specific info.

I have had the same skype account for years, and I still seem to have a username that's not my email or my full name. This is what I gave to Chicago. Am I doing this wrong?poptart123 wrote:Yes.. Re: Chicago C/O 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I didn't get any political questions, but I interviewed with Chi twice, so I can at least speak to the toughness question. It can absolutely be either extreme, and you should be prepared to handle that and not take it as a reflection on your candidacy. I had the same interviewer both times, and one of the times was the most awkward and terrifying interview I've ever had, while the other time was really pleasant. If it does seem to be a more serious kind of environment, I would recommend not smiling too much or laughing, but it seems like they're mostly just interested in seeing how you handle stressful situations, so as long as you can keep your composure while on the defensive, you should be fine.
For the timing question someone asked, this year interview invites went out considerably later than in previous years, so that may or may not have an effect on later timelines.

Where are y'all actually doing the Skype interview? The only time I could schedule mine was while I'll be at work, and I can't drive all the way home just to interview.

Very few people I know were asked political questions. If you are, remember to be open. This is the university that banned safe spaces so it's important not to say something like "Hillary should be in jail for compromising national security!" or "Donald Trump supporters are bigots and I can't stand them." It's a professional interview, y'all.R. Jeeves wrote:yeah im curious about this tookiwi50 wrote:Someone wrote that interview questions could be political. In what way?

FWIW the person who said they were a Bernie supporter and "raging feminist" last year and got in, I think, has more to do with having passions outside of law school and being a normal person rather than an indication of any political leanings of the school. The school has active people on both sides and it's a special place as a result. I don't think they're actively seeking a certain student to fit a certain political agenda. Relax y'all; best of luck.

if anything, Chicago probably has the most conservative/libertarian faculty no?KMart wrote:FWIW the person who said they were a Bernie supporter and "raging feminist" last year and got in, I think, has more to do with having passions outside of law school and being a normal person rather than an indication of any political leanings of the school. Agree 100%. The political questions I was asked were clearly more to see if I was a person who was interested in the world around me and could articulate an opinion on some issues. The bulk of the interview was "normal" interview questions.KMart wrote:FWIW the person who said they were a Bernie supporter and "raging feminist" last year and got in, I think, has more to do with having passions outside of law school and being a normal person rather than an indication of any political leanings of the school. I mean I don't think so but even if we do there's probably 3 professors. The academy in general is incredibly liberal, but the students are very open to discussion on both sides and it makes the campus a special place.proteinshake wrote:if anything, Chicago probably has the most conservative/libertarian faculty no?KMart wrote:FWIW the person who said they were a Bernie supporter and "raging feminist" last year and got in, I think, has more to do with having passions outside of law school and being a normal person rather than an indication of any political leanings of the school. Interview went pretty well, I think/hope. I was asked a couple of political questions but part of that is probably the role that plays on my resume. interned with a senator and now work on 2 campaigns as a volunteer.
