I don't mind - I'm at their 50% LSAT and 25% GPA, but I'm a nontraditional applicant with strong softs and a lot of work experience, plus I was born and raised in Orange County & I think I wrote a really good "Why UCI?" essay... I know they have a small 1L class and I applied late, so I'm not super optimistic, but we'll see!lawschool0070 wrote:mke88 wrote:Also applied around then as well. Hahaha this...faculty or something for sure.calmtigers wrote:Can't tell if these Zot posts are part of people's stips.... #SoUCI??? The school, faculty, and culture he built will still be intact. Most of the grads get jobs from the experience they get from the clinical/pro bono programs they offer, meaning, I don't think rankings would be effected significantly. Clerkships may be the exception. I'm an undecided 0L, but this will a small factor for me.lawschool0070 wrote:I understand what you're trying to say but this man is literally the cornerstone of UCI Law and the fact that he is leaving before we're expected to graduate makes me question my potential success at UCI. And I also understand that he is actually stepping down to teaching, but the impact of a teacher and the impact of a dean or completely different. This is a major blow.Kayak1277 wrote:First, the vast majority of students don't use the dean for personal connections. We have a robust CDO office and the traditional methods to get jobs too. Second, he isn't leaving (he will still be teaching) so he will still be able to use personal connections to the extent he does now.lawschool0070 wrote:So essentially the man who built UCI and used his own personal connections to get grads jobs is leaving before we're expected to graduate. Not too sure how I feel about this, UCI may be lowering itself in the coming future in rankings and in employment success.
I wouldn't worry too much about the Dean leaving (again, he isn't leaving). The school is set up to succeed long after he is done being dean.

If we SIR, can we still withdraw?

Nothing keeps you from withdrawing, afaik. It would be a strange thing if a school could force you to attend!
Though it doesn't look all that professional, of course.

Withdrew last week. Low balled for $ (1/3 of what I was offered at similar and higher ranked schools) and they wouldn't budge. Someone has to pay for all those full tuition years I guess. But IMO Irvine isn't worth $100,000+ in loans! Yikes! Good luck everyone and I hope the pennies I was offered go to someone great

I copy and pasted this from my initial acceptance email: "Later this month via snail mail, you’ll receive the official acceptance letter which will include your scholarship allocation." Since they've changed the email text a bit, I wouldn't say it's ruled out. Not sure though, hopefully others have received scholarship without mention of it in their initial acceptance emails.osgiliath wrote:kitkat12 wrote:Thanks! I received the "official acceptance letter and packet" language. I was then sent the packet electronically because I am currently overseas. It included a merit award for 90000.kitkat12 wrote:I copy and pasted this from my initial acceptance email: "Later this month via snail mail, you’ll receive the official acceptance letter which will include your scholarship allocation." How is UCI law for those who want to practice in LA? Are job prospects mostly for the OC area?

People who want to be in LA generally get jobs there. The people who generally stay in the OC do so because they want to.Abcdefghijk3 wrote:How is UCI law for those who want to practice in LA? Are job prospects mostly for the OC area?
