I do not know your first and second choice, but here goes: Find out when the deadline for a deposit at your second choice is. Then see if the school will take 1/2 of the deposit and wait on your first choice. Paying deposits everywhere is penny wise and pound foolish because about May/June, the law schools are all informed of who has multiple deposits everywhere by LSAC and then the school will force you to choose. Check your email at least once a day for news from your first choice.BeatriceButler wrote:Shame on this school for taking so long to get back to me. It's getting a little bit ridiculous at this point.
Hope this helps. Thanks

Anyone else been complete since early January and under review since shortly thereafter? OSU isn't making my decision to deposit very easy at all.

If you don't mind me asking what has you leaning towards OSU over UC? USNW's rankings aside? They both are very regional schools, and have similar bar passage and employment rates. I'd say if you'd rather work in Cincy go to UC, if Columbus than OSU.MischiefManaged16 wrote:My app has been complete since January 6th and still haven't received a decision. I heard back from OSU about a month ago and was offered close to a full-ride, what had me ultimately deposit at UC was that I live in Cincy and would be saving 60k in living expenses. Also, I would rather work in Cincy, over Columbus.
Just my advice and opinion of course, hope you hear back soon though!

That's true, I think I'd just prefer to work in Columbus over Cincy since it's located closer to my family. I still haven't gotten the chance to visit Cincy, but I'm very familiar with Columbus and could see myself ending up there. I ended up depositing at Cincy and found out they'll give you 1/2 your deposit back if you let them know before May 15th which is nice. Sounds good! I honestly was very impressed by the students at UC and the school. This is not to say I wasn't impressed by OSU though. I also am excited to work with the ohio innocence project, and love the small close knit feel of the school.MischiefManaged16 wrote:That's true, I think I'd just prefer to work in Columbus over Cincy since it's located closer to my family. UC has no advantage to OSU in Cincinnati besides location, while OSU has a large advantage to UC in Columbus/Cleveland/other cities in Ohio.

Not to mention only 61% of UC grads got bar passageRQ long term jobs, compared to 76% for OSU

Bingo. Cincinnati firms recognize the difference in the education, and don't much care that you live a little closer. Also, if you go to UC you might as well sign a lifetime lease on a place, because you'll probably be there forever. Which is fine if you are able to avoid all of the uncertainties and transients that the average person faces.PSPSPSPS wrote:UC has no advantage to OSU in Cincinnati besides location, while OSU has a large advantage to UC in Columbus/Cleveland/other cities in Ohio.

And Location is in fact a huge advantage especially in regard to networking and establishing contacts that share the same alumni network. If you're not interested in Cincinnati than I agree UC doesn't offer anything OSU doesn't. As for the larger advantage you're just speculating so it means nothing, both place the exact same in OH overall.PSPSPSPS wrote:UC has no advantage to OSU in Cincinnati besides location, while OSU has a large advantage to UC in Columbus/Cleveland/other cities in Ohio.

Again please show me the data that breaks it down by city? If you go to OSU you'll be in Ohio forever too, as they both are very regional. Your first job will determine whether or not you're able to break out, and your connections from then on out.lawlawlaw22 wrote:Bingo. I like OSU, and still am thinking about attending there but let's not get delusional.

Re: Ohio State c/o 2019 Applicants
Don't get mad haha I understand the desire to justify a hard decision in whatever way possible, but in reality, while US News Rankings don't mean everything and they don't indicate any individuals potential to succeed, a ranking difference of 30 doesn't just happen by chance. Cincy is a good school, and is climbing, but at the end of the day this isn't choosing between two schools ranked 3-4 spots apart. Also, if you look at other rankings Cincy drops to as low as 80. Hell, Cincy is only the third best law school in the state according to just about every ranking. If Cincy is free and OSU costs a ton more and you love Cincy, then that decision makes total sense to me. If they cost roughly the same for someone, that decision is just plain stupid. And yes, both are regional as most law schools are, but I know you don't actually think that a top 30 school with name recognition isn't a better option for most people than a top 60 school (at best) with very limited name recognition, you just want to believe it because you're emotionally tied to the city and want to make yourself feel better about the decision.raven1231 wrote:Again please show me the data that breaks it down by city? Anyone hear anything about the Moritz Merit Scholarship (full tuition) ? It's crazy that they are taking so long, we should have more than a week to evaluate our law school options before the May 1st deadline.

That's because those rankings are based off of three year old data. None of the other sites have updated their rankings based on the 2014/2015 data. But, I do agree if the coa is the same OSU is the better school but as anyone on here will tell you once you get out of the t20 there isn't much of a difference between regional t30-t70 or higher schools. Rankings become more and more meaningless the further you go down the list. And for what it's worth I don't feel the need to justify anything just feel like some people are drinking the us news kool aid is all. As I said before both are great options for people looking to stay in Ohio with OSU having a slightly better placement rate. I just disagree with the claim that UC doesn't place in Columbus or Cleveland and that OSU places higher is Cincinnati, because there's absolutely zero data to support it.lawlawlaw22 wrote:Don't get mad haha I understand the desire to justify a hard decision in whatever way possible, but in reality, while US News Rankings don't mean everything and they don't indicate any individuals potential to succeed, a ranking difference of 30 doesn't just happen by chance. I find this long drag for *Assumption ahead* a large amount of people, as professionally inappropriate. They know similar schools have deposit dates of ~April 15th. They're strong arming people.raven1231 wrote:Congrats! They really dropped the ball on notifying applicants this year lol. At least you heard back though!Billy Madison wrote:IN!!!

Yeah so either your stuck depsoting at schools and waiting waiting money or forgoing a deposit and hoping for the best. Pretty crappy either way. I was lucky enough to hear in early April but as you said many haven't.WaitWaitDontSay wrote:I find this long drag for *Assumption ahead* a large amount of people, as professionally inappropriate. for regular decision applications, do they have to give us an acceptance/wait list/rejection before the deposit deadline of May 1st or can it go even later than that?

I was interviewed by a professor two weeks ago and this Monday the Dean called me and told me I didn't get it. Although he did offer me a generous scholarship to make up for it.wmwdma33 wrote:Anyone hear anything about the Moritz Merit Scholarship (full tuition) ? In other news, I put my deposit down for Moritz and will be there in the fall. Feel free to send me a message if you'll be there too, as I need someone to go to games/the Short North/fraternity parties (just kidding) with. Go Bucks!
p.s. our class is lucky to have two home M*ch*gan games during our 3 years of law school. Another reason I'm glad I sat out last cycle to retake.

I also didn't get the scholarship, still waiting on other scholarship info. I feel like other people with my numbers are getting full rides, so 16k a year in tuition seems excessiveGreatBraffsby wrote:I was interviewed by a professor two weeks ago and this Monday the Dean called me and told me I didn't get it.
