I asked the Dean for scholarship consideration. Has anyone else tried this/know how long before a response?

Got a nice Fedex box in the mail from UF today! Little things like that really make me consider it even more

How long does that generally last for?
GPA 3.92
I'm hoping they offer me at least 75% scholly as well

Yes, I am very happy with it. I've enjoyed all of my professors thus far and have made good friends. I recommend it for anyone who wants to work in Florida and can attend for cheap.Sonar80 wrote:Thanks for the advice, I was seriously considering the church, but it's very likely that I will be at the school sometime around 830 every day unless I have earlier classes. Both the website and the lady giving me the tour basically indicated that parking is a nightmare. Do you know anyone that got a spot at the church down the road? How did that work out for them?FuturePanhandler wrote:Parking is not a huge issue. As long as you're there before 9 M-W you can park very close. If you get there after, you can park within a 5 minute walk. If you get there around a time when a lot of classes get out (i.e. 11:50) you can usually snag someone who is leaving's spot.Sonar80 wrote:I went around there last year. It was alright. I wasn't blown away or anything, but conversely I didn't think 'what a shit hole!' All the 1L classes are essentially in the same building which has three or four huge classrooms, and you pretty much switch between rooms all day. The library is pretty big, and has three 'areas' the quiet, very quiet and deathly silence areas. The law school itself wasn't as big as I was expecting. As with most colleges, parking is a HUGE issue there. Gainesville is a nice place, and has a lot of diversity and lots of things to do.Kat1021 wrote:Has anyone toured yet? Thoughts?
I thought I was set on FSU (scholarship) but now I'm not so sure. I definitely need to see UF.
On Thursday, you can usually get a close spot any time, and on Friday it's a ghost town.
There's never a time where you can't park within 5 minutes. Of the school.
I guess parking at the church works fine. You have a guaranteed spot and I think it's a little cheaper. It's more of a walk than if you are able to park right at the school, which I wouldn't like since it rains so much and it's so hot for much of the fall and the end of spring. One advantage to having a UF decal ("green decal") is that you can park at the gym if you go during the day. Otherwise there's no parking until 3:30 I think.
If you plan on always getting to campus early (which I recommend as a habit for studying purposes) and don't want to walk much then I recommend just going with the UF decal.

I highly recommend not letting things like this factor into your decision.Jrr13 wrote:Got a nice Fedex box in the mail from UF today! Little things like that really make me consider it even more
Job placement, cost of attendance, and location are about all that should have any bearing on your decision.

Do any Gainesville locals know of any good apartment complexes where it's not too "undergraduate-ish", aka: loud/lots of parties?

Scrolling through previous year's posts, it sounds like law students tend to live at Cazabella or Hawaiian Village. There is also Corry Village, which are UF Graduate apartments. Haven't heard anything about that option.

Cazabella and Hawaiian are common. I wouldn't recomment Corry. If it wasn't in the middle of UF, you would think it was project housing. I don't think I've met anyone that lives there, but it's not like I ask everyone I meet where they live. I think it's mostly international grad students within families.Kat1021 wrote:Scrolling through previous year's posts, it sounds like law students tend to live at Cazabella or Hawaiian Village. Thank you! My mom just informed me that she and her brother lived in Hawaiian in the 80s. LolFuturePanhandler wrote:Cazabella and Hawaiian are common. I wouldn't recomment Corry. We lived in creeks edge for a bit, mostly families. You'd be hard pressed to find a lot of undergrads in thereuab2016 wrote:Do any Gainesville locals know of any good apartment complexes where it's not too "undergraduate-ish", aka: loud/lots of parties?

The Continuum is an apartment complex for grad students I think. I'm not sure how it works exactly, but I have friends in masters programs that live there and love it.uab2016 wrote:Do any Gainesville locals know of any good apartment complexes where it's not too "undergraduate-ish", aka: loud/lots of parties?

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums. Just checking in since I submitted my app on 1/15.
LSAT at 75%, GPA above 75%
FL resident, non-traditional applicant working in federal government
Top 10 undergrad, top 10 grad school, STEM field
Looking to enter IP or healthcare law
Hoping for some good news! Does anyone know if applications are reviewed at specific times during the month or on a continual basis?

It seems pretty random right now, but the turn around times are definitely better than last years. Being above both 75th's you'll have a pretty solid chance for scholarship. Good luck!medtolaw wrote:Hey guys, I'm new to the forums. Just checking in since I submitted my app on 1/15.

Thanks for the kind words! A scholarship would be amazing. I was perusing through the old posts and noticed that you're a non-traditional applicant too. Are you looking to change careers or pursue legal work related to your field? Also, congrats on your acceptance!Sonar80 wrote:It seems pretty random right now, but the turn around times are definitely better than last years. Hey thanks! Yeah, I'm a non-trad and I'm transitioning out of a career that I've peaked at. Also, I'm looking at the long term ability to work in the legal field. Aside from wanting to be a lawyer, I also am very interested in the ability to work until I'm 80. I know that sounds silly, but I fully intend to work until I can't. I want to travel and do a bunch of stuff later on in my life, but I'm interested exactly zero in being 'retired'. So there's one of the many reasons I'm going to law school.medtolaw wrote:Thanks for the kind words! A scholarship would be amazing. Have you looked into the Patent law world? If you're coming from a STEM field that seems pretty lucrative.

Yes, I'm strongly considering patent law. It's one of the reasons I started looking into law school. I enjoy my job but, as a Master's level scientist, there is limited room for career advancement beyond a certain point.Sonar80 wrote:Hey thanks! Does this mean I should try to get more scholarship money...Has anyone who has petitioned for more gotten any? And if so, who did you contact?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
