One good thing is that UCI's SIR deadline is 4/30, so you still have a huge window.

The more I look into UCI, the more I feel like they REALLY stress "fit." I guess maybe work experience is valued highly b/c it will help their employment numbers in the future. Sort of like Northwestern. I wonder how many KJD vs 1 year work exp they admittedcaliplaw wrote:I took the law tour in the fall, since I live in the area.iguazu wrote:Thanks for sharing. I also found it to be really informative. In talking more with a professor, he also mentioned that if there is not a clinic available in your field of interest, they will try to set you up with someone in the community. I didn't get a feel for how many times that's actually been done, but they do seem genuinely concerned about your development/experience.
I have to say, the thing about the tour that stood out most to me was the diversity of the group. I did tours at USC and UCLA and on both of these, I was the only person 1) not still in college and 2) not with their parents. When I took the tour at UCI, the group was 10 people or so. There were probably five mid 20s-early 30s working professionals, an active military guy with his kid, a middle-aged man, one guy still in undergrad, etc. I could have just chosen a day with a good mix, and maybe this isn't representative of the incoming class, but it was nice to see so many different backgrounds on the tour. Not to say there's anything wrong with coming from undergrad, but the mix is appealing

We're going to need a new poll in just a few days.

UCI is taking a big PR hit right now due to the whole banning American Flag situation. Wonder how this will affect rankings / reputation if at all.

Looks like it was a vote of just six students and the administration is doing everything they can to repeal the decision. I know it's Fox but if anyone is going to be more critical of the decision it's going to be Fox lol.LawsRUs wrote:cld this be elaborated and/or linked?SupremeLaw wrote:UCI is taking a big PR hit right now due to the whole banning American Flag situation. I mean it was the undergrad that decided this, not the law school so i feel like it won't have any affect. There are three days until the rankings are released... I highly doubt they are still calculating reputation scores or that they would go back and change UCI's because of this.rion91 wrote:Looks like it was a vote of just six students and the administration is doing everything they can to repeal the decision. Anyone think in 10 years Irvine can misplace USC or UCLA in terms of employment clerkship placement?

Irvine already places extremely well with clerkship, that is its major strength.. What they need to improve is probably bar rates( really bad two years in a row) and overall employment.

employment will probably improve naturally over time. I think they are doing really well so far being such a new school and therefore having a much smaller alumni network. I think UCI will only be going up in the future!!HalfStudent wrote:Irvine already places extremely well with clerkship, that is its major strength.. Re: UC Irvine c/o 2018
that seems like it's the plan, leverage the professors' network to get student jobs, and have the alumni bring in more students. i would suspect our alumni network will be pretty close in the first few years. it will be a while before they are in hiring positions. i can only hope that not too much time has passed where UCI alumni can get into the position to hire new grads.Drowninmyowntears wrote:employment will probably improve naturally over time. First time posting on this site, so first I'd like to say hi! Spent a while lurking, but since ranking day is almost upon us, decided to just join. Anyway, who else is essentially ready to submit their SIR if the ranking is at least decent?

To the above poster, there is virtually no chance UCI will eclipse USC or UCLA in employment outcomes.

Are these numbers official or is it merely a rumour at this point?

Coming in at 30 is an amazing debut. I hope they only continue to rise and silence the haters. Although I chose UCLA I still have a love for UCI and what they are putting together. Congrats to everyone who is going here and I hope your risk and investment in the program continues to payoff.
