Just got my package in the mail! If I don't see anything about them offering me $$ in there, then that means I didn't get anything?

Why read all the applications? It would make the work load so much easier. lol Nothing in today's mail either. Maybe status will change tonight at 6pm but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I applied in late November and am still "awaiting evaluation" - this is getting ridiculous. should i call the admissions office?

I'm not sure. That's what I was told by Admissions, but there are plenty of people on LSN whose numbers are well above median who didn't get any scholarship money. I certainly hope this isn't the case. UC Davis is hands down my top choice, but it is way too expensive to go with just need-aid.

They seem to be pretty generous with need-based aid. I wasn't expecting to get any kind of need-based aid and got an email saying I'd likely get 13k per year in grants.

I may have put that a little too strongly- it is mostly just my personal preference. I wouldn't be able to get motivated at a place like Hastings, right down in the dirty, busy part of the SF. This is also a reason why I would never attend Loyola Los Angeles. I'm pretty sensitive to environment, so I want to go somewhere that I feel is conducive to studying. Also from what I hear, the atmosphere is much more competitive at Hastings as compared to Davis. By looking at Law School Transparency, Davis' employments stats also seem a LITTLE more promising... and of course, Davis' ranking is higher.

Congrats! I've been "awaiting evaluation" since forever, it's so frustrating!

I check my mailbox every day in anticipation and then in disappointment when all I find is junk mail from fourth tier schools.
Then I look at the status check to see "Awaiting Evaluation" for the umpteenth time.

Yeah, I got the same amount. But even with 13k a year, tuition alone would put in-state students 80k in debt. That's not even including living cost or other fees (or out-of-state tuition). Either everybody that goes to UC Davis is rich, or there has to be something that I'm just not understanding. The total cost of attendance minus need-based grants would put most people 150k in debt. How do people pay for this? Midwest dollars don't translate well to coastal dollars...

While I think you're correct, I think we have to fully understand the parameters and requirements of LRAP, IBR, and PSLF programs. While certainly generous, you will still have debt in the hundreds of thousands looming over your head for a minimum of 10 years. I've been talking with financial aid today to try and figure things out for myself. Just makes me kind of nervous without a little bit more grant aid.

Congratulations to the new admits!

My status changed to Eval in Progress last night; complete 1/26. I'm worried my GPA will make me an auto-reject, holistic admissions be damned. Nothing to do but keep waiting, right? *bites nails*

Well, if you pay sticker from Davis, that will put you at about $190k debt by graduation (including estimated living expenses). Therefore, you will have a monthly 25-year loan payment of $1533.

If you manage to meet Davis' median private sector starting salary of $145k, you should be fine. After deducting ~37% for taxes, living expenses, and ur monthly payment, you will still have a monthly disposable income of around ~$5000. Not bad.

No, I mean that median is only based on reported salaries, not the whole class.

It's closer to ~25% of the class making that or more, rather than 50% as it implies.
