Curious, did Villanova give you a scholarship?
Yes, full tuition with 2.0.

Got a good feel from the school. I was surprised how many people were there too.

I was also in section A. I thought the first half was kinda useless. It picked up afterwards though. The dean's explanation for the drop in numbers "We don't judge you only on numbers so you shouldn't either" wasn't the best argument. I liked the professor, she was pretty funny (Hooters in both ways.)
I also really liked most of the students and the alum and professors seemed really nice. I'm interested in working in DC and several professors offered to get me in touch with alum in that area.
Food wasn't bad but I was hoping for a free tee shirt.

I liked it. I wish they would have focused more on the career services and went through their employment statistics in depth rather than just hand out that one sheet. The building is really nice. The lady who taught the Title VII class was awesome. Rent seems like it would suck in that area compared to the city (at least places where I have lived). The judge lady that spoke was a little off to me, just trying to sell Villanova way too hard. Way too many people (not surprised as it allowed you to extend your deadline) and way too many parents/friends involved. I was in Section C. Wtf is ftw? :) Does anyone know how the sections were split up?

Yeah they had what 76% employment rate? I was hoping they would address that.
I think her angel was to make a motivational speech about the school but just failed and sounded like a telemarketer. The building is pretty baller.

What prof(s) did you guys meet today? And do you remember the name of whoever gave the speech you're talking about?

I'm a 1L, but wasn't there today... just curious.

Thanks!

Yes, the 76% employment rate at 9 months is very unsettling. 39.5% at graduation, ahh.

Those numbers mean next to nothing, considering employment is something that is completely within your control. Do you work, get the grades, get a job. It's that simple. It would be more reassuring if that number was closer to 90% or higher, but the statistic could be completely irrelevant to you in the same way that LSAT scores don't predict academic performance in law school.

Every other peer school places the same. The reason they report higher than we do now is because we don't report those bullshit jobs that count towards those %s but aren't real employment as an incoming 1L would define it.

I know, I just think they should have addressed it. At Temple's A.S.D., they had a nice, long, in-depth conversation about their employment numbers and what to expect. That was just something missing from Villanova. What is the [ERROR: 404] thing?

Why is rent so damn expensive near Villanova? I have been living in Philly for years and have always been able to get a one bedroom for well below 1K+, which is what I am seeing out in that area.

Sorry for the confusions! Yes, the A.S.D. You're good then.

Also why dose A.S.D without the periods change to this ---> ASD

I enjoyed ASD, as well. I must admit, though, that I did get somewhat of a "style over substance" vibe from the school. The building is great, many alums do impressive things, and everyone who spoke was clearly very enthusiastic about Villanova; but the lack of practical discussion about career prospects and the over emphasis on placement outside the Philly region bugged me. With their slip in the rankings, Nova has a lot to prove, and I think the school presented very well on Satuday. I just wish they had given more concrete, fact-based information.

I am from the area and know many current students and alums, and I'm not sure the rah-rah-rah go Nova vibe that came through on ASD is the predominant sentiment among students past and present. Many of the people I know have had a serious struggle finding a job, and for most who have found one, it was not their first or second (or, sometimes, third) choice. I do realize that is largely a product of the job market right now. All of the Nova students and alums I've spoken with have made it very clear that it is only a small number of grads who land jobs in other markets. I think Nova aggressively oversold the portability of a VLS degree at ASD.

Based on what I learned at the Temple ASD, I do not think it is true that all schools in this market have the same employment stats. Temple's career services presentation included a very in depth breakdown of employment stats (types of jobs, which require JD's, etc.), and those statistics were a bit more promising. Overall, I think both schools are regarded similarly in this area, but just wanted to put that out there since someone above mentioned that all schools here have the same employment figures.

Because Villanova is not Philadelphia... Apartment rent in the Villanova area is comparable to living in center city.

It's one of the wealthiest areas in the country. See #39 below.

I'm a 1L and commute from near the Manayunk area. The commute sucks sometimes, but my rent is very cheap.

As it has been discussed before, and from what I've discovered personally, Villanova was out of scholarship funds prior to the first seat deposit deadline. From my understanding that deadline was April 1st for those who didn't attend the ASD, and April 15th for those who did. Do you think now would be a good time to send a negotiation letter or to wait after the 4/15 deadline? I'd hate to waste a perfectly good negotiation letter by requesting consideration a second time only to be told they're still out of funds and will be until after 4/15.

So what do you guys think, send the negotiation letter now or wait until after 4/15?

You could always call first so you don't have to give away your name, and just ask if they are now allocating more funds since the April 1st deadline date has passed. Then you wouldn't have to waste a negotiation letter.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
