To those of you who were admitted on Tuesday (January 19th), have you received your acceptance packet in the mail yet?

Are there any current students or Pitt Residents who know anything about Bryn Mawr apartments in Shadyside?

Re: Pitt c/o 2015
Found out I was accepted via status checker about a week ago, and I just got my acceptance letter and deposit information in the mail (small envelope). No word on any scholarships in here, so it apparently seems like they're not going to be offering me one.
Has anyone tried negotiating with Pitt? I have a good amount of "leverage" (15k-20k/yr offers from similarly ranked schools), if that means anything. I want to go here so badly, but I couldn't justify attending without a scholarship

Same. I'm applying for the public interest scholarship, so maybe that'll pull through? If not I might try using Cinci's money as leverage. They're ranked slightly higher and gave me $6500/year.neeko wrote:I didn't get any either, they said they will rereview me in march.RaleighStClair wrote:Found out I was accepted via status checker about a week ago, and I just got my acceptance letter and deposit information in the mail (small envelope). Received a letter of admission and seat deposit info. Nothing about scholarships. Am I to assume this means I'm not getting one?stephinmd wrote:Nope.Kage3212 wrote:To those of you who were admitted on Tuesday (January 19th), have you received your acceptance packet in the mail yet?

Re: Pitt c/o 2015
Current 1L.
My understanding is that Pitt does a cost benefit analysis when you start playing the leverage game. So if (Pitt at cost) = or < (School X with Scholly), they are less likely to budge. This is just some hearsay from last year though, and I do not know that this is a fact. Pitt will negotiate though if you have the right argument or leverage. I know a person who got their 14k bumped to 16k and I got nothing off the bat, and ended up with 14k when I asked for it (though this is likely not super common as I should have gotten it initially).
I would suggest waiting until you get more acceptances/schollies to throw around (though I wouldnt wait until June or anything).
Good luck guys, it really is pretty solid here.

I got my acceptance letter in the mail today with an $8,000 scholarship, renewable with a 3.0. Pretty sweet, but I definitely would have appreciated a little more.

Re: Pitt c/o 2015
Some questions I have that I was wondering whether anyone could answer:
Does Pitt have an ASW?
Is Cinci a worthwhile school to use as leverage in an attempt to ask for scholarship money?
Can you declare residency and get in-state tuition for 2L and 3L years?

My understanding is that its pretty easy to get in state for the second and third year. Ive heard of people doing it sooner under special circumstances, though I dont know them personally.
Cinci is a fine school to use as leverage, but the more the better. When I wrote my letter asking for more money, I just said how much I wanted to go there, but I knew that it was a financial decision that shouldnt be taken lightly and named all the schools I got into with schollies. They gave me money within a week.

Re: Pitt c/o 2015
bport I am here to pick your brain as well. I currently have a 15k/year at Villanova, 5k/year at Rutgers, and an acceptance at George Mason to use in my scholarship negotiation. I will most likely be using both Villa and George Mason pieces in my scholarship negotiation, but do you also think it is wise to use the Rutgers? I didn't receive any money from Pitt but plan on trying to get as much as possible.
I also have PSU, Case Western, Ohio State and Emory pending. Not sure what the outcomes of these schools will be, but do you think I should start negotiating for money now or wait till some of these decisions are rendered. Thanks for offering yourself as a resource, much appreciated.

Re: Pitt c/o 2015
Personally -note these are only guesses- I would use anywhere you get money as well as any schools that are significantly higher ranked. I wouldnt use PSU, Casem or OSU since they are peer schools essentially, and are going to cost you more than Pitt. Use anywhere you get money though, and use Emory if you get in. I got money from Emory and used it in my letter.Kage3212 wrote:bport I am here to pick your brain as well. Re: Pitt c/o 2015
For those of you interested in PI (I think I saw a couple), if you look at the student organizations you'll see that we have the Pitt Law Income Sharing Foundation (PLISF) so obviously they are a bunch of communists. PLISF has a grant program where some students get grants for the summer so that you can take some PI job over the summer (I think you can also get any job in general which does not pay (just fyi, that's most summer jobs during your 1L year) but I'm not entirely sure so don't quote me on that) and they are also trying to set something to help graduate who take PI jobs after graduation but who knows when they will be able to set that up. It is one of the most active groups in the school and it definitely makes life a bit more interesting even if you don't join (B and C are so going down).
THIS SHOULD NOT BE A DECIDING FACTOR since the amount they can give in grants is limited because all their funds come from events they organize and the snack table. Just something to keep in mind when you are deciding between Pitt and some other school (I don't know if other schools have this kind of stuff though)

Re: Pitt c/o 2015
This is pretty much all true. PLISF is prolly the most active group in the building and do a lot for students. Their events are fun, and the snack table runs 4 days a week. Not a member, but I went to a few of their meetings. They do good work. If you are looking to PI, this is something to think about, as Im not sure what role other PLISF style organizations at other schools.gin wrote:For those of you interested in PI (I think I saw a couple), if you look at the student organizations you'll see that we have the Pitt Law Income Sharing Foundation (PLISF) so obviously they are a bunch of communists. They put on a pretty sick all you can drink and pizza beer pong tourney/party last semester. Kegs of Yungling. Good time. Next week they are putting on a Auction/Casino/food/Keg event. They really put a lot of effort into what they do.
