Re: Michigan State c/o 2015
I was accepted over the phone yesterday, but when I went online today to see if my status check had changed to something, it went from "complete" to "sent to committee for review." Should I be worried? Did anyone who got accepted go through this as well?

No, you shouldn't. If they called you, you're in. Don't worry about the status checker.

It took my status checker about a week to change over, you're fine.
Congrats to everyone who got in!

See, the thing is that the status changed to review today, one day after I had gotten the call. It still said "complete" yesterday.

"Complete-Sent to Committee For Review" hoping that means a decision is coming soon, but I am not banking on it.

I still wouldn't worry, they wouldn't call you if you weren't in.lawgeekgrl wrote:See, the thing is that the status changed to review today, one day after I had gotten the call. It still said "complete" yesterday.

Submitted Monday, went in review today. Finally all the fee waivers and emails convinced to apply. Most persistent school by far. Good luck everyone!

I was admitted w/ full scholarship and in the King's Scholars program, any one else out there in it too? I'm thinking about going to the March 10 ASW, hoping to get a fee waiver!

I was admitted with this scholarship, as well. Not sure if I will be attending at this point or not though.

Just got my scholarship packet today... Full trustee scholarship with 2.5 GPA stipulation. Good as long as I use it within 7 years. Plus the school will be refunding my deposit the first week of school. It covers the tuition for MSU, online classes, tuition in the DC program, and tuition for studying abroad for 88 credit hours. Sweeeettttt
MSU youre really reeling me in!

This is exactly what happened to me. Hoping for the 75k scholarship with 3.5/162 otherwise won't consider.dproduct wrote:Submitted Monday, went in review today. Finally all the fee waivers and emails convinced to apply. Most persistent school by far. Good luck everyone!

Re: Michigan State c/o 2015
Got an email asking to reflect on my C&F issues/addendum. Also for a why msu. Msu is the only school to ask for either. Is the consensus a reject is imminent? I applied bc they said I would be considered for a nice scholarship...

They said I was eligible for an $8,000/yr scholarship only to be waitlisted. Go figure.

Yeah they said i could get up to half tuition.checkster wrote:They told me I'd be considered for one as well, but I havent heard a word and I applied over a month and a half ago...
I applied November 28th, they held it for my dec score, and it didnt got complete/ur until mid January. It was at the top of my list. I thought it was odd they asked me to reflect on c&f shiz, no other school brought it up. I've already gotten in at better schools with money, so msu is going to have to give me a nice offer for me to consider. Is it worth writing what they requested, or shoul I withdraw?

Up to you. If they ask me to write anything then I'll withdraw. Already in at plenty of schools, and have good money from schools I'd rather go to. Looking at LSN they let in a ton of kids with money already, so I don't really understand why its taking forever now.

Re: Michigan State c/o 2015
For those of you who were asked to write "Why MSU?" essays:
I am in no way an admissions expert but I can say a few things about this. Personally, when I wrote my personal statement to MSU, I included my reasoning behind applying to the school. I sent my application to MSU before I knew my LSAT score, because this was in no means a "safety" school for me. I got caught up in rankings once and opted out of a full scholarship at a lesser-known (but well-respected) institution to attend a more prestigious one. At the latter, I had to work close to full time, in addition to taking out loans. What's more is that I can't even say that the experience was worth the money. So I've made a promise to myself to not let that happen again.
In any case, MSU is a very generous school when it comes to handing out scholarships. Although there are certain numerical factors for most scholarships, there are a reserved few that are granted based on other non-numerical factors. In my perspective, it is better to give a scholarship to someone who is going to take it, rather than offer it and not know until later that the student will not take it. A "Why MSU" statement can certainly be a good indicator that the student is committed to the school, and if offered a scholarship, he or she will use it. But if you truly aren't considering the school seriously and this is your safety school or something in the like, then don't waste your time- I'm sure you have homework or something else to do.
But before you throw away a safety school because of rankings, you should consider looking into the school and see what it has to offer. I humbly admit that it would be difficult for me to pay full tuition to a TTT school knowing what my employment prospects are, but a full or close-to-full ride to MSU seems reasonable to me because of two reasons. First, I actually love the school and I like what they have to offer. And Second, because even if employment looks grim (which mind you, this is the same for all schools, with allowing for some variants), I'd feel better if I have to look for a job knowing I have no loans to pay, rather than worrying about how I am going to come up with that kind of money.
Sure, rankings matter. But don't let that be the only factor affecting your decision. After all, all the people that psych you out about going to a school over other are not actually going to take out loans for you or help you pay for them. What's worse, if you go to a school you hate, they will not endure those horrible three years for you.
With that in mind, I wish you luck in this cycle!
