As a native Houstonian, I would never ride the Metro buses if at all possible. It's been a few years since I rode them, but it was never a pleasant experience. I do not know if UH has shuttles though. A car is definitely something to consider. The Memorial Park area is very nice, and if you can afford it, that's great.

I think that Houston is so spread out you could potentially miss out on alot the city has to offer without some form of reliable transportation. I've never used the metro and have lived here all of my life... As a reference, my experience has been that Memorial Park is easily around a 10 minute drive from the campus without traffic.

Re: University of Houston c/o 2015 (2011-2012 cycle)
I grew up in Houston. It can be done without a car, but it would be very difficult. Public transit is not great.mzells wrote:I've recently been accepted into UH but I'm not from the area....but in-state tuition is seriously hard to beat! Does anyone know if there is decent public transportation in Houston? I have a car, but I'm originally from DC...public transportation is sort of ingrained in me.
Also, would the commute from around Memorial Park into UH be doable? All my friends are saying I would like that area, but I have no idea how hard of a commute it would be. Input would be appreciated!

I applied on 1/4/2012, was "under review" on 1/12/2012, and got the e-mail acceptance on 1/27/2012. I hope this helps.dreambig wrote:Does anyone know how long I can expect for my app to stay "in review"? I just got updated to that status today and and DYING to get a decision!
EDIT: The timeline may also depend greatly upon your LSAT/GPA and other factors. Some people (180/4.0) will be an "automatic" admit, while others (145/2.0) will be an "automatic" deny.

Yes that helps. I was just hoping they would review it literally right now and tell me!

I would wait a few more days. It will take a few days to mail it there and a few more for them to check the documents and aknowledge receiving it. I'd call if your status checker doesn't update by Thursday or Friday, but that's just me.Lvaughn714 wrote:I also submitted my residency questionnaire last week and I still say "Out of State"Bluewavesix wrote:Same boat.Lvaughn714 wrote:I'm not even UR yet

I faxed it on 2/2 and an hour later the "waiting on residency questionnaire" went away. It says perm state:TX but residency:out of state. I have lived in Austin my entire life...mxmatt137 wrote:I would wait a few more days. Maybe just an email to them? I emailed mine in and recieved a response within an hour saying they received it, then another a few hours later saying residency was confirmed.Lvaughn714 wrote:I faxed it on 2/2 and an hour later the "waiting on residency questionnaire" went away.
