A little column A, a little column B. Just look back a could of pages in the thread a few people talked about this and linked to Ashas blog...admisionquestion wrote:Does the activities and what not section want a straight list or a brief description?

Would 4 letters of recommendation hurt an application? Should I stick with 3?
I searched through this thread and didn't see this discussed anywhere, but sorry if this is a repeat question.

My feeling about letters of rec is the following:ShulmanSR wrote:Would 4 letters of recommendation hurt an application? Should I stick with 3?

If a fourth letter of recommendation says approximately the same thing as the other three (so, for example, a fourth "this is the best student I've ever worked with!"), then it's slightly helpful, especially if it discusses something not mentioned elsewhere in other recs, the personal statement, or your resume.
HOWEVER, if the fourth says "this student is great" (but not the best ever), and the other three say "best ever," I would not submit it. Stick to three that say how outstanding you are rather than a fourth that could risk watering down your overall impression. Good luck!

No, don't submit 4. Keep it for if/when you get WLed.ShulmanSR wrote:Would 4 letters of recommendation hurt an application? Should I stick with 3?

OK: looks like this goes in the "Academic Interruption" category

Pretty sure it's going to be on the report LSAC gives them. I think it's similar to the education section where some schools ask for class rank/gpa/years attended etc. and some don't, but the info's on the LSAC report anyway.admisionquestion wrote:Im not reading all 12 pages so excuse me if its been discussed.

I don't understand what to do for the Academic interruption section... write a paragraph explaining what I've done since undergrad? I feel like my Activities and Work section already covers that :/

The Activities and Work section is for work during college; the Academic Interruption section is for work after college. I doubt they care, though - so long as you include all of the information in at least one of the sections.LaCumparsita wrote:I don't understand what to do for the Academic interruption section... write a paragraph explaining what I've done since undergrad? Ohhhh got it. Should I write it in narrative or bullet-point form? Thanks! PS congrats on your KB1!

LaCumparsita: this is Yale's answer to a similar question (about the activities and work section), quoted earlier in this thread.
And congratulations to you!
I think it's safe to assume that they have the same attitude towards the Academic Interruption section. In short: choose whichever best suits your experience, but either is fine. People here have done both.thederangedwang wrote:thanks for all the responses, asha kinda talked about it in her blog post i just found out
"You must answer Question 5a-c (honors, extracurriculars, employment during school), even if you are including a resume. Please. We won't complete your application without these answers. Many of you spend a lot of time (based on the questions we get in the office) wondering whether to answer these in bullet format, or in a little spreadsheet, or some other manner. Really, it just needs to be readable. Bullets are fine. If there is some honor or activity that isn't self-explanatory or on which you feel you need to elaborate further, a short narrative is OK. "
And congratulations to you!

No, but seriously, I think there could be an issue there. I looked at their website yesterday and it said, under the "how to apply" graph that they would notify you both when your application was received and when it went complete (which seems to be what happened for most). They tweeted the day after the app went live that there was an LSAC glitch downloading them, but they had gotten it fixed and started receiving apps now. I'm thinking a few may have been lost in the glitch though. LSAC says mine was sent to the school, but I think they would notify us by now that they got it.
Anyhow, I tweeted today to ask if we needed to take any action. It may take a day or two, but I am sure they will get back to me and I will post the response on here. So if they think its a douche-bag move, I guess I'll suffer the consequences alone lol. But I'm in the same boat as you.

Re: Yale c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Just wanted to update - Yale responded. They said they had received my application and it was complete. Both emails were sent, but apparently my Hotmail is blocking them since I've been checking my junk mail (where I found my Harvard interview email thankfully).
So I would assume the same is probably true for you, especially with Hotmail. They said they are changing my primary email to my yahoo account. Glad I asked. How else would I get my WL/reject email lol? I could just see my waiting till like May to avoid annoying them, then writing in to find out I was rejected in January. That would totally have sucked.

Seriously, my IT husband is mortified by my archaic use of tech. Actually, I tried to get a google account way back when, but we were overseas and I ended up with a @googlemail.com address, which just confused everyone so I stopped using it. I would tell people my address and they would always send to gmail.com - who has googlemail?! Sigh. Now, I just have too many things going to my hotmail, which is what I used for all junk mail, listservs, etc. You've got to be important to get my yahoo account lol - so technically, I guess Yale is now a close friend or colleague of mine, whether they know it or notfreestallion wrote:MumofCad wrote:Just wanted to update - Yale responded. Just wanted to let you know that Google uses @googlemail.com and @gmail.com interchangeably. They both go to the same email address. Try it! Also, if you have a "." in your email address, you can exclude that and it goes to the same email account as well.MumofCad wrote:Seriously, my IT husband is mortified by my archaic use of tech. In other words: John.Smith@gmail.com = John.Smith@googlemail.com = JohnSmith@gmail.com = JohnSmith@googlemail.com
Pretty tricky!

+1 - I wonder if I can still access that account. It was like 6 years ago, back when people had 5 invites or whatever. That's why I was so frustrated when I got googlemail.com! Probably another case where my husband was just playing a joke on me and forgot to eventually end the running joke (this happens ALOT). I'll have to check that out, but I am so lazy about switching anything. Changing my phone number once was a very traumatic month lol.soj wrote:Wow, I knew about the periods, but I had no idea about googlemail. That's cool.
Good to know though! Thanks!

What is this doing on the 2nd page? Checking in.
Still haven't applied, still haven't written my 250. Is this bad/hurting my chances?
I know they have a special review process, but I feel as if applying before thanksgiving will be ok.

Is it generally safe to say that receiving encouragement to apply and fee waiver application in the mail is little more than YP/getting up the hopes of unsuspecting applicants so they can be mercilessly crushed?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
