Probably UNC. I think they are more or less peer schools. UNC has more name recognition, but only due to sports. Honestly which ever one is cheaper and/or in the area you would rather spend three years is the best bet.UFLS2013 wrote:UNC vs. Washington and Lee

I am 1/2 hispanic (I've gotten mixed responses on whether or not thats a boost haha), but I'll take it.
In terms of resume - I was student body president at my university (private/top tier), as well as other high ranking leadership positions and had good recs from very strong figures/professors/and my university's president.
I assume thats the extra boost.

to answer your other question, the law school isnt that removed from the rest of campus...one could even argue its less removed than the bschool because its in mid-campus instead of south. You shouldnt have too much of a problem being connected to the rest of the school at all, especially in social terms.

I think this is great. Looking at straight numbers leaves SO much out of who each applicant is and what they are capable of. Congrats on the admit, and those are strong softs!Center2450 wrote:I am 1/2 hispanic (I've gotten mixed responses on whether or not thats a boost haha), but I'll take it.

I'd say W&L is more prestigious; maybe that's just the undergrad. I'm pretty sure W&L undergrad is much more difficult to get into. Not really sure about the LS.LSATfromNC wrote:Probably UNC. UNC is known to be a leader in education as an entire institution. Quite frankly, a large percent of the population has never even heard of W&L. Thus, UNC has more laymen's prestige. In addition, UNC scores very highly in the USNWR's reputational score. Therefore, it's more prestigious in law circles as well. I'd be thrilled to end up at W&L, but I'm just sayin'...Muddy wrote:I'd say W&L is more prestigious; maybe that's just the undergrad. I'm pretty sure W&L undergrad is much more difficult to get into. In state, high GPA, above average softs, and decent LSAT... I would say you have a pretty decent shot! UNC loves high GPA's so I am sure that will help. Good luck, UNC is a top pick for me as well.Kaytee wrote:Carolina is my first pick for sure, I'm just getting a little nervous about my odds..
160/3.8 from Carolina undergrad
Also have a paralegal degree and work experience managing a law firm.
In state.
Any thoughts?

I too would be thrilled to end up at either UNC or W&L. I just said that W&L “undergrad” is more prestigious – and I’m sticking with that. I also went to the US News Rankings.MarkRenton wrote:Muddy wrote:I'd say W&L is more prestigious; maybe that's just the undergrad. I'm pretty sure W&L undergrad is much more difficult to get into. Ranking:
UNC #28 under National Universities
W & L #14 under Liberal Arts Colleges
Selectivity:
UNC – 34%
W&L – 16.8%
SAT – 25th & 75th Percentiles:
UNC - 1210-1390
W&L - 1320-1480
I was speaking about the UG. Right now, I believe both law schools are ranked the same, but several years ago, I know W&L was ranked higher. I’m really not sure if size makes one more prestigious than the other.

Do you think it would help if I threw myself on the steps of the law school and started begging and crying?
