That drives up the likelihood of people who were interviewed getting in, so I have no complaints.pylon wrote:That's a really good point. Manageable yes, however based on HorseThief's numbers it looks like the most they've done in a week is around 50 all cycle so far. It could definitely increase as we move forward though.ThePinkRanger wrote:That equals 14 interviews per person per week. At 30 minutes per interview (prep plus interview time), that's 7 hours per week per person. That's manageable, no?

Idk. They may have done 500-600 already. My impression, though, is that the spring was very busy for them (lots of late night JS1's and JS2's), so they might go into overdrive this spring to get all 1,200 interviews done.ravel wrote:Do you really think they're going to do 800 more interviews? So is the JS1 wave over or is it possible more will happen at the usual 4PM Eastern Time that JS1s have been released in the past? Just curious if I should stop checking my email

So does this mean that they "complete" the people they want first and my wait is pointless... it literally says a 3-4 week wait. sigh.gold33 wrote:I submitted around then (1/12) and haven't even gone complete...superpatton wrote:I submitted about two weeks ago. That's my point. Also, it's not just the 30 minutes. They have to do the initial review, read recs, personal statements, look at stats, plan interview, review interview performance, send in for faculty review, etc. It seems like a lot to do in the span of three months.pylon wrote:Manageable yes, however based on HorseThief's numbers it looks like the most they've done in a week is around 50 all cycle so far. Right, but my 30 minute calc is only for the quick refresh prep up to and including the interview. The rest of the 33 hours per week (assuming they only work 40 hrs/wk during admissions season, which I doubt is true--prob more like 43 hrs/wk) are for the rest of the heavy lifting (i.e. initial review, read recs, personal statements, look at stats, review interview performance, send in for faculty review, read our TLS comments and laugh at us).ravel wrote:That's my point. Ugh fine. I was just trying to convince myself they're going to give up and start admitting everyone they interviewed.ThePinkRanger wrote:Right, but my 30 minute calc is only for the quick refresh prep up to and including the interview. So FWIW they do JS1s for people on the wait list too - and I am pretty sure they include those in the 1200. They put a lot of people on the wait list, and admit many students off the wait list. They have plenty of time.

Application suddenly complete today. Submitted Early Jan. Coincidence? Probably.
Would lose my shit for a JS1.

Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Okay, time for some horrible, rampant speculation. According to Harvards 2013 ABA 509 report, they had roughly 5,500 applicants. Given the drop in overall applications (about 10% compared to last year), let's knock off 500. Assume we'll have 5,000 applications to HLS this year.
By January of last year, about 35% of all applications had been sent in. So, as of Jan 1st, we've had about 1,750 applications to HLS.
By that time, I had counted 228 JS1's given out. That means 13% of applicants had been given JS1's, and if 2/3rds of all JS1's get JS2's, we're looking at a projected acceptance rate of 8.7%. Since their actual acceptance rate is 15.6%, my JS1 count must be way off.
TLDR; the total number of JS1's given out is probably closer to 500 or 600.

I doubt that. I went complete in less than a week after submitting my app and haven't heard anything since then--early November.humph wrote:

A lot of assumptions there, haha. I would say that the JS1 to JS2 ratio is a bit higher than that, and that is probably especially true for early JS1's. This also doesn't take wait-lists/holds and unofficial holds into account.HorseThief wrote:Okay, time for some horrible, rampant speculation. I would certainly not be surprised if they had interviewed 500 or so thus far, but your count shouldn't be too far off.

Friday evenings have gone from the best time to the worst time for me. Now, they're just accompanied with the feeling that nothing happened for five days and nothing will happen for the next two days.

On the bright side, it's possible that we'll be waitlisted and have to wait until mid-August for a final decision, so we'll be in this state for the next 7 months. Wait.
