Not thrilled to be sending in my deposit -- even if it's a comparatively meager $100 -- before I have a complete picture of scholarships and loans to come, but UWash was/is my dream school, so there's never been much doubt that I was going to enroll anyway.
Noticed that there isn't an attending thread in the Class of 2014 forum yet, but have any of you done much in the way of apartment scouting?
I've started looking a little, but it looks like other than campus owned places you can't do much damage until around june or july depending on when you'd like to move in. i'm lucky enough to be in the area so this isn't a huge deal for me, but if you're actually moving you might want to call ahead and get an idea of what the school recommends. i applied to the commodore duchess (school owned, independently managed) but it's still on the pricey side for a 1bed so if i could score something more doable i'd definitely go that way. either way, everyone pretty much says to ask again in june or july at this point. anyone else have any ideas/input on where grad students usually live?

Re: U Washington 2011 Applicants
I just visited UW last weekend and got a lot of helpful tips from current students. I was told most graduate students avoid the U-District due to noise, partying, etc... The neighborhoods I was told that were good for graduate students were Capital Hill, Wallingford, Green Lake. I was told to avoid Queen Anne due to long bus times.

Awfully quiet here....
Does anybody know if UW has a time frame they'll notify WL ppl by? I know they'll make decisions in May (ahhh! its just around the corner!!), but will they (cruelly) notify into June/July/August??

I'm on WL. As I understand it, WLers could come off the list May 1st through the second day of class. Pure agony.

Re: U Washington 2011 Applicants
Thanks to all of you who are posting yr withdrawals, I know in reality it probably doesn't increase our odds (rumor has it UW actually over admitted already so even with withdrawals may not need to go to the wait list this year); still it does fuel some hope and hope is good right?RTFM wrote:I also withdrew. Let's hope next week is an exciting one with the admissions board surprising us all with offers of admission, or at least a final word so we can get on with whatever comes next!

If your looking to avoid noisy party areas, avoid Capitol hill. It's the worst of them all.apaint wrote:I just visited UW last weekend and got a lot of helpful tips from current students. Really, I'd mostly advise checking the window seal and wall thickness. It'll help your heating bill and make the volume of the neighborhood less of an issue. Being higher than 4 floors helps too.kevin261186 wrote:If your looking to avoid noisy party areas, avoid Capitol hill. Re: U Washington 2011 Applicants
I read on the LSAC website that on May 15th every year, LSAC provides schools with the list of applicants that have made multiple seat deposits to help them with the admission process (like, they would send out additional reminders to students to either withdraw or confirm attendance?? I don't know how...).
Well, either way, I'm hoping this will not affect those on the WL that have made seat deposits at other schools negatively...as an indication that we are less committed to attending if accepted off the WL. Based on that date, I think we should see some movement after the 15th?? Also, does anybody know when the second deposit (if there is for UW) is due?? That would give us a better idea of when offers/denials could be made...

Re: U Washington 2011 Applicants
I talked to Mathiew a month or two ago and asked him if it will penalize us on the waitlist to put down another deposit and he said that he would encourage it. He didn't want us left without a school in the end and said it was good to have a backup plan, so I wouldn't worry about putting down a deposit to another school/LSAC releasing the information.
