considering holds have gone out, wouldn't this indicate that they are approaching their JS1 cap? Can they really have done 1000+ interviews already?

i dont think its 850/1200 the odds of getting in bec that implies that every js1 has the same chance of aceptance from that point. but that cant be true? right? i mean the 180/4 has an interview but its a formality. Its impossible to know what ur odds are from merely getting a js1. yes 850/1200 get in but that doesnt mean that getting a js1 means u have 70% shot of admission imo. i may be looking at this in the wrong way though

At least in past years, the general results of a hold were pretty bleak. It doesn't look like a huge amount of JS1s came from the hold pool, but this is all based on the TLS threads.

Not likely. There are about 180 ppl on the hls 2016 Facebook group at the moment. The last bunch joined a week ago. Let's say that because they admitted early, they had a superior application. These 180 ppl probably had a higher chance of getting in than the average JS1 applicant. So for them the admit rate is more like 80-90 than 70 percent. That would mean only about 200 to 225 JS1s have been given out, as of a week ago. There are many hundreds, up to 1k, more JS1s to go.

If we can assume it is just another portion of your application and not the final stage, then you can change the 70% up or down based on if you think you are in the upper or lower 50% of applicants to get a JS1, true.

Hard to do though so I just stick with 70%

True- fb isn't the best dataset, but it's the best we got. Nonetheless, I wouldn't be surprised if the number is more like 400, if you take into consideration the people who already have JS1s and aren't accepted until April

yeah its hard to do and 70% is a fair estimate. js1= pretty awesome either way

Don't know how many JS1s have happened (blind guess would be 700) but there need not be a correlation between holds going out and the quantity of JS1s. In fact I can't see any reason why there would be.

1) the applicant pool must be close to complete (given that is mid-January) and holds have gone out.
2) It would appear that very few JS1s come from holds.

I doubt they get 800-1000 new auto-admit applicants before the deadline. Therefore you have a bunch of JS1s to send out and a bunch of people on hold. It doesn't really match up based on previous years (very few JS1s from the hold pool). Maybe this year because of the dip in applicants they are going to pull way more from the hold pool?

Let me know if you think my reasoning is whack.

Last year holds went out on 01/10 and half the JS1s on LSN came after that day. Of those, ~2/3rd submitted well before the new year.

This cycle seems to be going even slower than last years too.
