I MESSED UP! You should just email the LOCI! admissions@law.berkeley.edu ... some schools like Chicago don't even accept hard-copy anymore. They've all gone paperless. I don't know Berkeley's philosophy on this but to be safe just email!

I mailed one.... Should I email the same letter electronically? I'm worried they'll receive both, which would be awkward.nigerian22 wrote:I MESSED UP! Someone once taught me that the best thing in these situations is to send the email as well & then write on top of the email:
"Copy to follow by U.S. Mail"
No awkwardness

Should I send the LOCI in as an attachment or in the text of the email itself? Thank you for all of your help! Berkeley is right at the top of my list and I'm really hoping to get off the waitlist!

Hold up, the waitlist email explicitly said they discourage LOCI's and additional materials. Haha looks like I won't be emailing the letter! Thanks anyways though.

Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
I put it in as an attachment. I did say in the text something along the lines of - "Thank you for your consideration of my application for the JD Class of 2016. I would be grateful if you could add to my file a Letter of Continuing Interest. The letter is attached."
"I would be grateful for an email confirming your receipt of this message."

Sorry I thought you meant when it is on Hold or when they send you that "You have passed the initial review" email.
Yes absolutely Berkeley doesn't like post-WL LOCI's unless they explicitly so request.
Sorry for any confusion!

Shoot. So before reading this, I sent an LOCI reply to the faculty review email. I guess that goes to the Dean of admissions? I also didn't think to include my LSAC number. Would you send a copy (with the LSAC) to the general admissions email as well, or does that border on stalking? Yes, Berkeley, I am waiting by the phone, hoping you will call. <3 <3 <3

For those who have sent a LOCI, did they ever reply to you? Do they let you know they have received the letter?

No reply for me. Either I sent it to the wrong email or some people don't spend their holiday weekends refreshing their work email. I should probably learn something from that.

Their dean of admissions Edward Tom seems to be very hands-on. If you want, you can perhaps copy him to the email you send admissions@law.berkeley.edu
Admissions at Berkeley is retail
And yes to me they did respond very briefly ("Thank you for your letter of continuing interest") but that's probably because I asked them to confirm their receipt of this email

I actually mailed one in and received no response of them receiving it. I'd stick with emailing.smartin1532 wrote:For those who have sent a LOCI, did they ever reply to you? Do they let you know they have received the letter?

From Twitter (nine hours ago according to my app, which would mean around 11pm PST!)
@BoaltAdmissions wrote: There is an a priori assumption that everyone remains interested. Therefore, no need to stress over whether or not to send a LOCI.

Welp. I guess there is officially nothing I can do to make myself feel better about my FR chances.

Same. Especially after thinking I was getting closure on the 15th...I figure if I didn't get admitted off FR1, the likelihood of being admitted off of FR2 has gotta be lower.spyke123 wrote:hm at least we will finally get a closure by march 8? Anyone else into the Jurisprudence and Social Policy Ph.D program and planning to do the joint degree?? The cohort is tiny and it's a shot in the dark but I was hoping maybe I could find one other!
From FR to JSP... And I am a splitter. Miracles do apparently happen, guys. Keep the faith!

So I haven't been notified of Faculty Review, and still haven't gotten dinged. Is "administrative review" finished at this point?

Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
Is anyone aware of chances after WL? Obviously it will depend on where I get placed, but I don't want my hopes to be high if Berkeley normally fills their class without tapping much into the WL.
For background... Just extended my lease through July so I am in for the WL long haul. I'm not pulling out until I hear back from Berkeley, unless Georgetown gives me a massive scholarship.
Any advice? I realize that "Submission of additional materials or a letter of continued interest is not encouraged " so I won't be bothering them for some time... but what do I fill my hours with over the coming months?

I've read that sometimes Berkeley barely touches the waitlist. It depends on the cycle though.bsinoff wrote:Is anyone aware of chances after WL?

Hang in there. It will be OK.
Focus on the transfer process if you don't get your heart's desire on this go. You can do it.
