I looked at lsn and someone got a VCE yesterday. Hopefully this means more are coming.

It's very encouraging to see that other with Chi and NYU are still waiting too.seanPtheB wrote:Zelda wrote:Still waiting. 172+/3.95+.
Or you know, Harvard and a Ruby in Zelda's case! Definitely good company to be in.

I guess so. I mean writing skills, research skills, your ability make your own arguments and to interact with people (clients, potential witnesses, other lawyers, judges, etc.) would also be extremely important. I don't think the LSAT measures those.chasgoose wrote:So essentially the skills you need to succeed as an associate at a biglaw firm...amc987 wrote: Also, re: all these comments about the correlation between the LSAT and the SAT, I don't buy that the LSAT measures much more than your ability to follow directions, to adhere to a very specific style of reasoning, and to do all of that while not getting too frazzled by test day pressure. There are plenty of exceptionally smart people who have a lot of trouble thinking the way the LSAT requires you to think. There are also plenty of less brilliant people who just inherently understand the LSAT and don't have to do a lot of work to get ridiculously high scores. And there are obviously extremely smart people who do very well and less capable people who don't do as well. I think that most of the correlation between the SAT and LSAT scores is that test taking is a skill like anything else. Most people who are good enough test takers to get around 1550 on the SAT (which I believe is in the 99.5th percentile) don't just lose their facility with test taking when it comes time to take another standardized test. Their competence with standardized tests is likely to stand them in good stead on the LSAT as well.
I wasn't quibbling with why law schools use it. I was just saying that using someone's LSAT score as some kind of proxy for their actual intelligence or their ability to succeed in the legal profession seems to be overstating the test's importance and predictive value. Just my 2 cents.

Quick glance at LSN-- seems like Columbia is holding a pretty firm line at 172.

I only just now received a fall grades request. Any clue what this might mean this late? I submitted late October.
Also, should I just send an unofficial transcript while I wait for the LSAC to update my official one? I know I can search for this, but this thread has moved a lot in the past few weeks.

My request had specific instructions to submit an email version to them as soon as possible and an official one directly to their office. You could probably call and ask if they didn't give you explicit instructions.jwalterweatherman wrote:I only just now received a fall grades request. Any clue what this might mean this late? I just copied and pasted my unofficial transcript into an email and sent it to them with a short note saying I've ordered transcripts from my school. Like 3 days later they will send you an email back saying they updated your file.jwalterweatherman wrote:I only just now received a fall grades request. Any clue what this might mean this late? Can anyone tell me how long the turn around is between submitting a transcript for a fall grades request and any sort of movement, acceptance or otherwise? I just got the email today and sent out the transcripts they requested so I want to know how long until I start compulsively checking the mailbox again.

It's hard to say. You could read through the thread from last year for people who got fall grade requests, but it's such a small sample size it's hard to say. The only people with fall grade requests that have seen any movement thus far have been people who received them in early December. They seem to have heard a couple of days after the first batch of admits or not at all.wwwolves54 wrote:Can anyone tell me how long the turn around is between submitting a transcript for a fall grades request and any sort of movement, acceptance or otherwise? Thanks. This is my last school to hear back from so I guess one of them has to make me wait painfully long. I guess I have to try to forget about Columbia for a while.snehpets wrote:It's hard to say. Same here, just miscellaneous adverts. Late October submit, median GPA, >75th LSAT, unknown UG.WhiteGuy5 wrote:Checked mail. Not only is there no VCE, but there isn't anything except a stupid freagin catalogue for some stupid local store.

Ooooh, I'm interested in this. Are you an international? Or just with a current address abroad? Because I'm in Canada and have been expecting an email as well, do you mean a VCE could just show up??mworee wrote:I'm actually abroad. I know admitted students all get envelopes and reserved students reported (last week) getting emails, but is there a consensus on whether holds go out via snail mail or email?

No, I'm an American with a current address abroad. I think some Canadians got emails a little while back, but maybe there's a VCE headed your way!
