Changed my vote in the poll to one 'rank' higher today. Feels good.

I did as well. If anyone ever needed evidence as to how self-selecting TLS is, that poll is a pretty good place to start. ~40% of TLSers reporting info got into T6 and above. Close to two-thirds got a T14 acceptance and over 80% a T20 acceptance. People who use this forum are in no way representative of the broader law school applicant population. Maybe a lot of it is reporting bias, but in general it is a lot of high-achievers who are self-selecting to use this forum...pylon wrote:Changed my vote in the poll to one 'rank' higher today. Guys, at this point in the game, is there a consensus on how you should think about scheduling interviews? e.g., once you get the invite, is there an advantage to snagging the earliest date available without sacrificing prep time?

Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
You are overthinking this. Just pick whatever date is convenient. I also don't know know what you plan to do in preparation, but if you have your answer to "why law" in your head, just click around the school's website for an hour or so.twitterati wrote:Guys, at this point in the game, is there a consensus on how you should think about scheduling interviews? e.g., once you get the invite, is there an advantage to snagging the earliest date available without sacrificing prep time?

Agreed.hereisonehand wrote:Just pick whatever date is convenient.
Although I'd say the earlier the better. In the time between your interview request and the date of your actual interview, I'd imagine your file is 'held', insofar as you won't receive news either way during this limbo period.

This is true and sadly have been in limbo at Vandy since I submitted late in November. On the plus side: my interview is very soon so it should finally get reviewed.pylon wrote: In the time between your interview request and the date of your actual interview, I'd imagine your file is 'held'

To those that have written one, how much time did you guys spend on your Why X essays? And is the general consensus on the length one double spaced page?

Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
Definitely double space your why X's. I did why X's for Penn, UVA, Duke, and Mich. They were a page and a half each - except for Penn's which specifically said to keep it a page or less. I'm not sure how much time I spent on each one exactly, but I definitely put a good amount of effort into them. I would speculate that a mediocre why X is probably worse than not having one at all.YeezusPiece wrote:To those that have written one, how much time did you guys spend on your Why X essays? Pretty much what others have said. Did why X essays for Mich/NU and the DS.YeezusPiece wrote:To those that have written one, how much time did you guys spend on your Why X essays? And is the general consensus on the length one double spaced page?
Contrary to what pulstar1 said though, I think that a mediocre why X is better than not writing one at all for schools that YP heavily, just from personal experience.

Oops wasn't thinking about YP. In that case you're probably right. Either way though, I still think its worth putting time and effort into writing good why X'sjawsjawsjaws wrote:Pretty much what others have said. Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
I read the "why x" guide on TLS and it seemed like they didn't want something super long-winded. Mine were only half a page double spaced, but I spent a fair amount of time writing (they all went through two editing iterations from different people).

Sorry to interrupt, but which schools are traditionally YP heavy?

Penn and UVA I think are the big ones but every lower T14 does it to an extent. Mich and Duke probably follow those two.musedreverie wrote:Sorry to interrupt, but which schools are traditionally YP heavy?

Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
I'm confused. Yale has to fill what, 200 slots a year? So over the past 4 years, they rejected more above-both-medians than they admitted in favor of splitters and below-both-medians.

Question:
When everyone refers to the "status checker," are they referring to the status on LSAC under school list/report status or is it somewhere else? Will the school send an email with login information?
THANKS
