Congrats to everyone getting in! I am wondering if it's a good idea to send a LOCI in, I have been UR1 for about 4 months with no movement but I did write a "Why NYU" in my original application. Does a new job/transcript update justify a LOCI?

Is it generally considered a good idea to write a "Why NYU" essay? I know some schools really like that and encourage it, but is NYU one of them? I didn't on my original application, but now I'm wondering whether or not I should.

In via phone! Aaaaahhh! I listened to the voicemail twice to make sure I heard correctly and checked the area code to make sure I wasn't being pranked… it seemed too good to be true!

LSAT >75, GPA <25. Very average softs, except for really good LORs (according to my recommenders at least). Didn't apply for any named scholarships.

Submitted 1/28
UR 1/30
Decision 2/11.

I'd say that a shiny new job is totally worth an update -- but keep it brief!

Is there a protocol for LOCI? Who do I email, is it an attached doc, etc.
I think I might point out my undergrad gpa is now .13 higher than my LSDAS gpa after last semester (no retakes, just high school "college" credits I was dumb enough to take).

For transcript updates, you should have your school submit an update directly to LSAC. For something like a new job, I wouldn't write an essay about it. A brief sentence or two should do the trick.

I did not write a "Why NYU". And from what KB has advised, top 6 schools essays are best left until after you get on the waitlist (If you do).

+1

While I think its a good touch to incorporate some non-generic (program-specific, etc) sentences about "why X" into your personal statement, its really not necessary for T6 schools. They all have good matriculation rates and don't have to YP. At this point, if you're comfortable with your numbers and think your application has a good chance of getting accepted, I think you should just hold off and submit an LOCI if you get WLed.

Congrats to all admits!!!
Seems like many on LSN with my UR1 date (1/17) got a DLS.
Do they just send admit wave first then ding/waitlist ?
With a UR2: 2/10, but no DLS today, almost sure I am dinged.
Take your time, NYU, but try to let me know next week

Actually, I'm pretty sure that this recent wave was people with UR2 1/24-1/27. Going by this, if you were UR2 on 2/10, I would expect to hear back next week or the week after that.

At one 75th and above another and still UR1 at 12/13. The struggle is real.

Wow... can you think of any problems in your app? Now that people who submitted after me are getting DLS with lower number than me I am starting to think there is something wrong in mine.

I have gotten in to several T14 and had interviews at several others so I really have no idea what is going on.

I got into Duke, but I applied after December LSAT scores were released so I'm not worried about most of them. This seems like a strange cycle. I am curious to see where medians go and the application numbers from this year.

I read the Contact Us section and it sounds like they are busy enough without LOCIs or inquiries. I think I'm just gonna wait and hope for the best. Good luck all!

I like to think that my UR2 1/28 means I just missed this wave and will hear back next week. :)

I'm not sure if it has been confirmed not, in any case, to be true (because it could be related to only certain named scholarships, or something), but some people who have applied for named scholarships have heard back already, so it's certainly not a general rule.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
