Might be a good question for Spivey and Co. I'd be interested to know the answer as welllymenheimer wrote:I think that waitlists are treated different from admissions and other outstanding decisions. Duke's initial seat deposit is "binding" but I have been advised that riding other waitlists was allowed. (It may be different for UVA, I don't know for sure)ChocoFreeze wrote:
Thank you!
Also, does anyone know if I can continue to stay on waitlists after I make both seat deposits at UVA? I feel like I read somewhere that they make you withdraw from every other school and commit after the second seat deposit, but I can't find that right now. Or maybe I'm just wrong.

"After May 17, the Law School reserves the right to cancel the matriculation of any admitted student who is reserving seats in both our entering class and the entering class of another law school. We discourage such “double-depositing” prior to May 17, but prohibit it after that date, barring exceptional circumstances."pittsburghpirates wrote:Might be a good question for Spivey and Co. Doesn't explicitly mention anything about waitlists...

By the way I just called UVA, scholarship info is included in the financial aid info you'll get in a few weeks time. In the email, it will either tell you if you got only financial aid (loans) or adjusted financial aid to account for merit scholarships you also received. So the wait should be over by then.

Merit aid would be included in the package you can see. It seems strange that they wouldn't let some of us know until then, but it's possible.coldmonkey13 wrote:So if financial aid goes out on the 1st of March (or thereabouts) if we don't hear about merit by then are we to assume we get nothing?herecomesthesun wrote:You da real MVP. Your financial aid package, which can be composed of any combination of merit, need, and loans. We will all receive this on March 1st as discussed above.coldmonkey13 wrote:Wait I'm confused, included in the package that I was admitted with?urbanist11 wrote:Merit aid would be included in the package you can see. Yes, I was told that merit aid has its own specific line or section in the financial aid report/email. If no merit aid is mentioned, you can assume that you have not gotten any. If you have gotten merit aid aka scholarship, then it will be explicitly stated there as a reason why your loans are adjusted to be less than full cost of attendance.urbanist11 wrote:Merit aid would be included in the package you can see. Also something I forgot to mention: the lady said that "most but not all" scholarships have already gone out as the scholarship committee has been pumping most of them out in the last 6-8 weeks. The vast majority should be out by the time you get your financial aid information. She said that it's rolling and they're continuing to send scholarship letters via mail but some people may not know until they get their financial aid letter as it'll be included in there.
And they also told me that you can email admissions after you receive your financial aid info to confirm that you didn't get merit aid.
TL;DR Keep calm until you get your financial aid letter. If you fill out FAFSA and Need Access by tomorrow, you WILL be getting financial aid info in a few weeks and you'll know for sure if you're all loans or have some scholarships. And to clear up any confusions, you can always email admissions.

Re: UVA c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I don't think UVA gives out grants. I called a week ago right after I was admitted and they told me that there are no federal grants for graduate school; need based financial aid comes solely in the form of loans. There is no federal pell grant/equivalent. Please feel free to prove me wrong, I'd love to be wrong lol. Appreciate the info, even though it doesn't give me much optimism. The reality of potentially getting no-offered is setting in, which is not a big deal - but surprising. Someone with my #s was given 40k/yr last year. I'll hold out hope until I get the email!ChocoFreeze wrote:Also something I forgot to mention: the lady said that "most but not all" scholarships have already gone out as the scholarship committee has been pumping most of them out in the last 6-8 weeks.

Why would they require NeedAccess if they didn't give need based aid? We are not talking about federal grants. We are talking about institutional grants.ChocoFreeze wrote:I don't think UVA gives out grants. Yeah I'm starting to come to terms with that myself. People with my numbers got full rides last year, and people with close to my numbers have gotten pretty close to full rides this year. Re: UVA c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
My guess is that awards and scholarships are referring to slightly different things. "Awards" probably equals some combination of non-named scholarships/merit aid and need aid. "Scholarships" in this context is probably referring to the large named scholarships. This is a total guess and it's possible that there are contradictory things coming from financial aid, but I would bet that it's just an issue of context.doobleykah wrote:Is it just me or does this from today

Anyone else in this thread that submitted in Oct/Nov and DID write a Why UVA with competitive stats that's still waiting? I've had radio silence since submitting, aside from the accidental fee waiver and apology email. Not really sure what's up.

I recently sent in a Why UVA and a resume update, but other than that I've had radio silence since I went under review in early November. For me, it's probably because I'm a very drastic splitter, but it doesn't seem to be too uncommon.justakicker wrote:Anyone else in this thread that submitted in Oct/Nov and DID write a Why UVA with competitive stats that's still waiting?
