Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
Me too. First ding. LSAT above their 75th, too. They do have a reputation for favoring high GPAs, and mine being 7 years old didn't help too much, I guess.
Consoling myself with NYU acceptance.
I was UR 1/10, never went to committee. I wonder if an earlier submission would have helped. I think it was on their FAQ or someplace where they were unusually insistent on the benefit of early applications.

NYU is a great school and higher ranked at that! You're in a great position. Good luck to all those still in the running!

I submitted early and have a high GPA. I think the economy is just forcing them to be more YP heavy.somewhere wrote:Me too. First ding. LSAT above their 75th, too. They do have a reputation for favoring high GPAs, and mine being 7 years old didn't help too much, I guess.

Ding for me too. I think they could sense my extreme lack of caring by my 1.5 page PS
I wouldn't have gone anyways.

Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
Also dinged in California -- Berkeley alumna 171/3.82 + good softs/WE + good PS. UR from 1/10 due to December LSAT and never went into CR.
I was also concerned about the late completion date; I definitely noticed a trend last year with exceedingly few January completes getting admitted, while people with the same numbers getting admitted earlier in the cycle. While this tendency seems present with all schools -- that is the nature of rolling admissions -- with Berkeley it seems exceptionally pronounced.
Future Berkeley applicants: APPLY IN OCTOBER. It's worth more than 2 LSAT points.
P.S. I think Berkeley seems to strongly disfavor its own alumni : https://career.berkeley.edu/Law/LawStats.stm
All my friends with GPAs below 3.9 seem to have a rough time of it. I'll also note that I didn't fill out the questionnaire querying socioeconomic status - might have hurt me.

Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
Hey guys, dinged today. Median GPA (in science major) + 75th LSAT. Not an auto-admit for sure, but I thought I'd at least get CR...
Best of luck to the rest of you still alive. FWIW, I assume my late application hurt (1/08 submission). That and, I didn't tailor my essay to Berkeley, and it was only 2 pages long.

How is grade inflation in Berkeley UG? Maybe they like OOS more anyway?

Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
I mean, Berkeley has a strong reputation for being grade-deflated, though I'd rather attribute that to the fact that some of the students (transfer students from community colleges in particular) not doing that well when they get there and complaining. I didn't feel that it was difficult -- I got some weaker marks in classes I cared less about and didn't study for passionately. Those that I did study a lot for I got exclusively A's and A-'s. (I also spent a lot of time at the library.)r6_philly wrote:akikaze wrote: P.S. I think Berkeley seems to strongly disfavor its own alumni : https://career.berkeley.edu/Law/LawStats.stm

But then it varies across departments too, you know; I thought that the "___ Studies" majors handed out A's like candy (or maybe the expression should be "like at Brown"). The upper 25% of Berkeley's freshman admits have SAT I scores >1500 (old scale), and from that group, those who were majoring in EECS or MechE had difficulty breaking 3.0. So I don't know what to tell you.

Just got dinged by Berkeley. 12/28 UR date, 4.0/168. No Berkeley-specific PS or any of that.

You and me both. I submitted 12/17, UR since 12/20. So they're hitting my dates today.askyemcdonald wrote:Sorry to all dings....Pretty much terrified of my email for next few hours.

Well I figure it's only a matter of time now. But I've had them listed as "rejected" on my LSN profile since I didn't make CR1.Bildungsroman wrote:Just got dinged by Berkeley. 12/28 UR date, 4.0/168. No Berkeley-specific PS or any of that.

Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
Will they just ding me already! I have great grades, an awful LSAT, sicsofs, and $75 for the app fee. I have virtually no chance at getting in, and i would just prefer to get dinged so i can stop coming to this thread and reading about people with insanely better numbers getting dinged. I need to spend my time worrying about schools that i actually may get into and get my head out of the clouds.

Do what I did: archive the email with your status checker, put them as rejected on lsn, and move on. I've just been telling people I was rejected.Sicsofs wrote:Will they just ding me already! Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
Don't worry guys, I really feel that the timing of my application was why I got dinged... I feel like with my numbers, I should have gotten CR at least... perhaps that's being presumptuous, maybe something about my app just sucked to them, but since I got into UCLA with a dean's scholarship, I assumed my app was at least halfway decent... oh well... :/
