Re: U. of Florida 2010-2011 Applicants!!
Thanks all on the housing information. I'm hoping to do more research when I can actually get back to G'ville after my orders finally end next month. I think I'm getting the hang of how the street number names are signed. I messed up the area I was asking about though: it says its in the Stephen Foster area (NW 29/NW6)?
Also, did anybody else show any interest in the new graduate housing complex they were building near downtown? I thought if I came by myself and left my family back in S Fla it would be an okay place given what it comes with, but it seems a little overpriced. And the Bartram, while really nice, just seems way too high.

After meeting with some judges and SA from my internship today, I'm starting to seriously reconsider UF...I'm confused.

The resounding opinion of the members of the legal community that I have spoken with is that UF has a superior reputation than any school for Florida.FeelTheHeat wrote:After meeting with some judges and SA from my internship today, I'm starting to seriously reconsider UF...I'm confused.

I will. I appreciate the advice, I was just surprised at how vocal some were about UF's rep...especially given my career goals, which is south Florida.mistergoft wrote:The resounding opinion of the members of the legal community that I have spoken with is that UF has a superior reputation than any school for Florida.FeelTheHeat wrote:After meeting with some judges and SA from my internship today, I'm starting to seriously reconsider UF...I'm confused.

What exactly did they say? I was told by a prominent attorney down here that I know personally to pick FSU over UF. His main emphasis was to graduate with as little debt as possible. He said they were both great though all else being equal.FeelTheHeat wrote:I will. Was he younger? I feel like only recent attorneys really think UF and FSU are anywhere close to even. The 2 firms I worked at both leaned towards UF between UF and FSU. Oh, and the summer interns where all UF students!Lili305 wrote:What exactly did they say? I was told by a prominent attorney down here that I know personally to pick FSU over UF. I too was told to graduate with as little debt as possible. Then again, someone else told me to go to UF without exception. I'm tired of trying to make this decision!

They spoke highly of its prestige...specifically for me, they said it gives the best opportunity to work in south Florida, which is my career goal. Also, and I didn't realize this, but as I would not be in Tally during the summer if I went to FSU, and have no plans to live there, it negates the summer opportunities that make it such an appealing choice.
I'm going to do something shocking and actually follow my own advice by visiting the school lol.

Yeah, that's crazy. I have a UFID now, too, even though I'm just LIT.
Has anyone who's been rejected tried to get an ID?
Although, it seems odd they'd give ID's to everyone who's been admitted --
you'd think they'd wait until we enrolled.

Maybe someone whose status hasn't changed could try to get a UFID?
Maybe they assign them to all applicants?

No, surprisingly he's in his 50's and has an amazing bankruptcy practice in Miami. Maybe it's because he owns a small firm and is kind of anti-big law. Everyone I have spoken to has mentioned debt being the main factor. Even friends that attended T-14 have said so. They seemed to be concerned about the job market and the stress that excessive debt puts on you. IDK, but I think my head is going to explode at this point...Barbie wrote:Was he younger? I may have over justified it to myself because I generally just LOVED UF more, but I look at it this way: I was only awarded 20k, and with the COL difference that could generally be anywhere from 16-18k more. First off, the starting salary difference (I understand this may be somewhat skewed, but whatever) is 20k more PER YEAR! Secondly, I feel like I will perform better at UF because I like gville more, third 16-18k is what I'll spend on 1/2 of one car in the future, and if I have to settle for a 20k car instead of a 40k car to make the difference up, I would do that to go to UF because I <3 it that much!Lili305 wrote:No, surprisingly he's in his 50's and has an amazing bankruptcy practice in Miami. +1 People often forget COL, but I also love UF way more and might be biased.Barbie wrote:I may have over justified it to myself because I generally just LOVED UF more, but I look at it this way: I was only awarded 20k, and with the COL difference that could generally be anywhere from 16-18k more. I hope the letters sent out two days ago weren't acceptances and the letters going out today are denials. Hopefully they were both acceptances

I think all the acceptances are from the mixed batch last week, right? What I'm wondering is te rhyme or reason for the 3.5 160's getting dinged or accepted...gators124 wrote:I hope the letters sent out two days ago weren't acceptances and the letters going out today are denials.
