From your applied school list it seems like UVA is your reach/best case scenario. If you're really anxious to get a reply, why not throw an ED contract at them? Its so late and with your numbers and being in-state, I feel like that's your best bet for an admit. You're late in the game so you're not longer an auto-admit with your numbers and being in state.bluecanary622 wrote:Hey!agora139 wrote:dinged! was expecting at least a WL based on my other acceptances, but oh well! less pressure from my parents to move back south
I applied to UVA early February (I know, really late) – and I haven’t heard anything. I’m not surprised at all since I applied late, but I was wondering if anyone knows about how long it takes to get decisions and how they come (dings vs. WL vs. acceptance)—whether it’s through mail or e-mail.
Also, does anyone know about how long it takes to get a decision and when the latest we’ll hear by is? I have a couple schools that want a deposit by April 1—so I’m getting nervous I’m not going to hear back by then.
Thanks for any info!

They will email you telling you to call them for acceptance. Don't be scared if you get an email from a UVa addresschampsound wrote:I think ding/WL are by email. They will call you about acceptance. Re: UVa. Regular Decision
Huh! Well, UVA wasn't very pleasant or apologetic to me. I was waitlisted via status checker last month and never even got an email (and there was no email in my spam folder either). I think a few other people on this thread who were waitlisted around the same time that I was also did not receive an email.delusional wrote:wl email todayI assume there's some YP involved. They have a very pleasant and apologetic email - I wonder if they're nicer than most because it is really just to prune the uninterested applicants.
Would someone mind posting a copy of the waitlist email? I'm just curious to know what it says. Thanks!

Any idea of the time table for getting off the waitlist?
I'm wondering whether or not to withdraw.

But I was under the impression that the waitlist is a mile long and that it is practically impossible to get off the waitlist if you are OOS.

Does the UVA status checker ever go to "Under Review"? I've been on "File Complete, Pending Review/Decision" since 2/28 and wondering if UVA has UR dates or if it will just shift to DF one day without warning.

No, the status stays at "File Complete, Pending Review/Decision" until you receive a decision. It never changes to "Under Review."Zabini wrote:Does the UVA status checker ever go to "Under Review"? I applied March 1st, went UR/Pending Decision March 7th, and again Today. How many times does your status checker change before getting a decision?

Mine changed once about 2-3 weeks after I applied. UR 1/13 then UR 2/3 or something. Then I got a WL email about a month after that.soccer1006 wrote:I applied March 1st, went UR/Pending Decision March 7th, and again Today. How many times does your status checker change before getting a decision?

Got my waitlist this morning. Love how I had to wait until the bottom of the 6 line paragraph to figure out if it was a ding or waitlist. I'll probably ride it out until I hear back from someone - anyone! This is my 4th WL this cycle.

i followed your advice and wrote a really good follow up with an ED contract--and still haven't heard anything! I think this is going to be a ding. i should have applied earlier! auhg!kelc213 wrote:From your applied school list it seems like UVA is your reach/best case scenario. Re: UVa. Regular Decision
When did you send it in? Did you get a notification that they received it? They will email you when its received and from that day, they're obligated with the ED contract to let you know either way within 15 days. With an ED contract in the mix, you cannot be waitlisted. They will either admit or ding you completely. (They've started doing this in recent years -- they've realized that it was unfair to waitlist people who ED because they rarely ever make it off the WL.)bluecanary622 wrote:i followed your advice and wrote a really good follow up with an ED contract--and still haven't heard anything! I'd call and make sure they received it if you didn't get notice from them directly.

Re: UVa. Regular Decision
Is anyone looking for a hotel roommate for ASW? I just posted this in the ASW meeting thread:
"I was hoping that someone else would want to defray the costs of housing for the trip and would like to share a room with me. I'm a 25 year old guy, who is looking at UVA and Northwestern for the fall. I'm thinking of going for the Cavalier Inn because it seems somewhat close to campus and also somewhat cheap. Is there anyone who is interested? PM me any details TODAY because the reservations have to be made, obviously, soon. If you can only share the room Friday and Saturday, that would also be fine.
I know that finding a roommate like this might be a little strange, but I'm a pretty normal guy who just happens to also be pretty cheap.
Thanks!"
Any takers would be appreciated. Doesn't have to be weird, just has to be a roommate.

ANY IDEAS if UVA keeps separate wait-lists between OOS vs. RESIDENTS? Or in order for UVA to comply with this state mandate, do the admissions office simply have to show an "acceptance rate" of 40 % regardless of matriculation rates?

I think this is a great idea, and would take you up on it. Only problem I'm on the miles long wait-list. Too bad WL'ers aren't eligible to attend It would be nice, just in case the ultimate long shot occurs.
